Terrain question

By Japles, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So a question came up in our group by a new person to Descent about terrain. Specifically water.

Does it cost 2 movement points to enter the first water space or every water space?

The rules state "Water spaces are defined by a blue line surrounding them. A space containing water costs two movement points to enter (instead of the normal cost of one). Any figure entering a water space must spend two movement points to enter or it cannot enter that space."

The blue line is only on the outer edges of water, not between adjacent water spaces.

Does it only take one movement to move in the water terrain once you have already passed the blue line that defines the water space?

I have always played that every water space takes 2 movement points not just the first water space you enter. But I thought this might be a valid question.

Every water space costs the same. The important part is that you are entering a water space. Entering from a land space or another water space is irrelevant.

You have been playing correctly.

All of the spaces inside the blue line are considered water, however, they are still individual spaces as defined by the regular white lines. Entering any single "water space" invokes the extra movement, as Zaltyre said, regardless of where you came from.

Thanks for the validation. I will continue to play the same. It was just new view that never came up before.

Thanks again
