Any Chance for a hounds tooth for standard play?

By DarkGuard, in X-Wing

I kind of suspect that we will get the Mist Hunter next.

I doubt it. Hound's Tooth's in the new canon, the other two (Dengar and Zuckuss's ships) are fairly ugly and not in the new canon yet. That'd make Bossk the priority.

Plus, for the Hound's Tooth it's easier to find other pilots given it's been around the canon and Legends. Pekt springs to mind.

Umm, when has FFG ever cared about the new canon? I'm just saying, that in the Team Covenant interview, he talked about Zuckuss a lot...

I guess Mist Hunter is a small ship... Hound's Tooth is much more established though.

I view Smug/Spies as the underworld reflection of the Rebels. Just as people consider Scum as the same for the empire.

Okay, I think you're missing one important detail. In the LCG, S&S and Rebel Alliance are on the same team, Smugglers and Spies represents underworld elements aligned with the Rebels. The LCG has two factions with subfactions. In X-wing, all the factions oppose each other. Three factions means a three way fight. Scum attacks both the Imperials and the Rebels.

A fourth faction likewise will be attacking Scum, the Empire and Rebels. You quote Chewie, Lando, Dash and Han as S&S pilots. They would be, thematically, attacking the Rebels. That's half the reason they're not in Scum.

A fourth faction is just that, a full fourth faction.

Not to chime in on a ongoing argument, but I really do not see this point as valid. In Xwing, factions can fight any other faction, including their own, at any time, tournament or casual play. So if a Smuggler version of Han or Chewie was fighting a Rebel version of Han or Chewie, it would be no different than a Rebel Han fighting a Rebel Han and that can and does happen right now. I think that both of you have made good points in support of your side of the arguement, but I would encourage you to go back a year ago when everyone was saying that their would never be a third faction. Then the game exploded in popularity and amazingly now we are getting a third faction. Does that automatically mean that we will be getting a forth? Of course not. But does that show that FFG is willing to expand this game to keep it fresh and making money for them? It does. So I would just wait until after we get S&V, and if it sells like crazy and everyone buys it and loves it, then I would bet that we get more factions. If it is kind of a bust, then not. Time will tell.

Mirror matches are a tournament practicality, however FFG has made it very clear in their articles as to how the new Scum are fighting both factions.

Or they could release more ships for the existing ones. A new faction doesn't have any particular financial incentive.

The Action IV's a transport though. Scumwise, I'd wager their corvette'd be something like the Crusader. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Crusader-class_corvette

I'm with TIE Pilot here, the Crusader is a great choice for Scum's Huge ship, and it's Black Sun. But there's a lot that can be done with the Action VI. Aside from the Wild Card, there are pirate Interceptor Frigates, which are heavily armed and armored Action IVs and VIs designed to take on small capital ships. These were used by Black Sun and Zahn Consortium, so there's probably a lot that can be done with Title cards. I still prefer the Crusader Corvette, it's like an evil CR90.

As for the Star Jewel, it could work, but it looks a lot wider than the current Huge ships so it might not play as well on the table.

While i agree with TIE Pilot on nearly everything here, i'd probably add that allowing any faction to fight any factionin tournys is as much laziness on the part of TOs as 'practicality'.

As i've mentioned a million times i used to run national tournys (and international ones occasionally) for the worlds biggest game companies and while the majority of those did allow same faction fights i ran as many a year in which you had to attend with thematic opposed lists and as TO we arranged your games so that you fought a 'thematically sensible' opponent.

Given that a competetive xwing list is always possible for less than $100 (criky even £100),*personally* this game would have been a lot better on the OP field if players brought a rebel *or imperial list to an event (or now a S&V, two of the three anyway) and if you couldnt agree before hand who was fielding which then the player lower ranking at the time chooses, if its a draw you toss for it.

Personally 'han vs han' or even 'han shooting at wedge' type games really put me off OP

Given the core set gives you 1/3rd of a strong list for either side (part of a tie swarm or part of any number of decent 'x' lists) you're really only putting a 'condition' on those who only play one faction and refuse to play the other... do that many people really only play one? I know two people who only play one faction out of about 30 players and one of them only plays 'imperial only' because his wife collects 'rebel only'.... as a couple they own everything made.

Never liked the look of the Hound's Tooth so I would be glad if it's never put into the game UNLESS they add significant detail to it. The nice thing about Scum is that FFG can dig far into the past for ship ideas, since it would be thematic for Scum to take ancient ships and modify them. They also have free license to design their own vessels because it's not like Scum has regular forces or 'line' units.

Im indifferent to the look of the HT.

Put it this way , its not as naff looking as Slave 2

I'm just going to be a jerk and say that I don't think the Hound's Tooth will be in the cards for us.

While I do think chances are good that Scum will get a Huge ship, I have my doubts that they'll make the Hound's Tooth the one (or two) which they produce. While I personally want them to do as many Huge ships as the market will bear - including the Hound's Tooth I don't think the market will bear such a thing, and I don't think that FFG will risk doing so. I think they'll consider it too unknown and too wonky.

My betting money would be on an Action VI (Wild Karrde) as the ship they'll make (if they make one).

In other words, I think you're best off making one at home, or getting one of the 3d printer guys to make one for you.

I wanted to highlight the "too unknown" part here

FFG has announced a wholly new ship that literally is completely unknown, and people LOVED IT.

They don't care how well known something is.
