360 Ion Walk

By Fnords, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi!

I like to build fun and strange squads and I was just thinking what to do with the YT-2400 before Mangler. I find it completley useless with HLC and title. Have faced it over 20 times and never failed to get into range 1 and completely own it.

So what cannon can be used at range 1-3? Answer is Ion Cannon!

So why not construct a fun squad around that. So here's my list:

Wild Space Fringer (30)
Ion Cannon (3)
Recon Specialist (3)
Outrider (5)
"Dutch" Vander (23)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Flechette Torpedoes (2)
R3-A2 (2)
Roark Garnet (19)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Recon Specialist (3)
Total: 100
  • Roark is there to give PS12 to a ship
  • Dutch can gift a TL and if you get in range 1-2 in his front arc, ouch stress and Ion is going to hurt you bad
  • WSF is well not useless at range 1, which is nice.
  • Recon Specialist ofc to boost offence and defence.
What do you guys think, could be fun to walk some ships of the board

The problem with this list is the terrible damage output. It may be able to walk some ships off the board but depending on the ship is looks like it will need to as it will probably dish out just 3 to 5 damage a turn at most with 3 or less being more likely.

It may just destroy some squadrons and could be fun to play but it is also likely to get owned by other squadrons who could care less about an Ioned ship or even two when there's no damage backing them up.

Should work great against 2 ship builds thou. With TL and Focus to go around and PS12 you could ionize both a phantom and a Decimator get behind the arc of the phantom and repeat. Just an idea but I'll try it out

It's best adversary may be those two ship squadrons but they'd still need to get them working. Seeing this are recognizing the risk of 'walking off the board' I'd be very tempted to make sure my ships end up facing each other so that if they happen to get ionized they'll bump each other to keep from moving off the board.
