New painters please dive in and try, you can just wash it back off.

I am only posting this cuz I wanted to encourage others after learning from youtube and really hope someone gains something from my little post, please keep in mind I have just started my self so watch videos or read posts from those who are better than I am if you really want to learn, I just wanted to show that even a fool like me can do it.

As I said in the title, I use water based paint and just dive in, if I screw up I run it under the sink and wash with and old tooth brush, comes right off.

I just started painting and found it easier than you may think.

I hope this helps folks who are new to painting.

I found the easy way for me was to start with the final color, black wash over it, cover most or all of the model.

I pick a color I want and start dry brushing with a darker shade then the shade I want, I do most of dry brushing with my final color and high light with a much lighter shade than I wanted in the end.

Use the lighter color to just hit the corners and high spots.

Wipe most of the paint off the brush on a piece of paper and brush the ship just enough to leave a little on the model.

Be sure to use far less than you think you should at first, it is much easier to put more on than take paint off.

These are the first two ships I tried, you should be able to do better than me, I just started.

Dry brush for effect!

Well done. Truth is, if you are happy with it, then who really cares what anyone else thinks?

Those both look awesome! The water based paint is a very smart idea. I have been bit by the repaint bug a few times but if I did one of my ships I would have to do them all haha.
