I don't think anyone said anything about banning threads or even necroing. The way I understood it, the OP was upset about a dozen thread topics that get regenerated every day or multiple times a day with no new original content.
If there's no original content to make it won't be made. If there is original content to make it'll be made anyway.

I see posts with original content and thought all the time. Just on the current front page there's the dice scam alert, the discussion of dice roll cheating, common misconceptions, evolving the shark, and 3 hours of battle music. Of course there's some subjectivity of what's original and of course it's dependent on how much/what you've already read on the board. But do the same 6-10 topics have to be rehashed every day or so, on average, diluting the pool of original content?
This is the official X-wing forum, it's gonna have skyfalling threads. Nothing you can do about it.

What do people think we will see in wave 7?
Most, if not all forums I have ever participated in have a posted "Rules" or similar type pinned thread that addresses something like this.
So why should this forum be any different? Because you are afraid reducing the amount of the same conversations will reduce involvement? No. Less topics, innovative and thoughtful posts are what will keep the community alive.
It's absurd that you have to rush to defend spammers or people who have no control or patience to lurk to find out the conversations being had on their topic in order to defend some crazy "free speech" ideal.
I have a low post count because most of my posts are relevant (trolled once or twice, because I am human) not because I am not interested or involved in the topics at hand.
