R-r-r-r-r-REPOST

By Tilaso, in X-Wing

This needs to be addressed. Please lurk a while and actually search the forums for the topic you are about to post.

I swear, every single day, I see a new WHATS IN THE NEXT WAVE or OMG RAIDER/ADVANCED/PHANTOM or EP VII SHIPS IN THE CARDS?! etc meanwhile all of the old topics just get added to the shelf.

When you post a new thread on something, make it a new, relevant topic instead of retreading the same path somebody else posted before. All a new thread on an already discussed topic says about it you is that you do not have to patience to lurk and find what others have to say OR that you have a need for your voice to be heard.

I don't see the issue. It's not as if we didn't have the same discussion in different topics that new discussions would appear.

Literally every day somebody gets the bright idea to post about Wave 7.

Also how Wave 6 will be a meta changer.

Or "My new list" [spoiler: its just a swarm list like everyone else]

Yeah, what ever will we talk about if it isnt these things!

Wow, you're reposting the same tired post about telling people to search the forums first?? It's like Inception Post.

Bitching about the Falcon and Phantom?

I'd rather reposts about actual game content than the following:

  • Complaints
  • Complaining about complainers
  • Moaning about pronunciation, abbreviation or acronyms
  • Moaning about forum protocol

Unfortunately, a lot of the content on the front page currently seems to fall into one of these four useless categories.

Yes a common post.

You know, you dont care the same conversation every day, then by all means ridicule me all you want. Point is, a new thread should be conversation generating, not a reheash of a conversation already being had. It is a wasted effort.

Complainers complaining about complaining about complainers.

Well done.

Though to be fair, I didn't decide to make an actual topic about it.

If you have to search past pg.3 and the topic isn't there them there shouldn't be a problem with re-posting.

I rather have the current Forum META of reposting than Necromancy as the new normal. Some threads are 100's of posts deep. I personally rather not read through all those posts between "first unread" and "last post" so I have the correct response and references to "last post"

Welcome to reading posts on forums everywhere. Re-treading the same old topics is a time-honored tradition on internet forums since the dawn of the tubes.

crazy.

never seen that happen on message boards before....

... <_<

OP needs to chill...this forum has some great discussions, and some great discussions about great discussions, and then there are the great discussions about that one discussion that was great talking about the great discussions...

Funny. I see a little pattern here. Low post count people dont like useless retread topics, high post count people defending it. They need more threads to reply to.

NO NECROMANCY. DARK MAGES WILL BE ROASTED THEN SENT TO SWIM WITH THE FISHES

So, are you suggesting that people post in older threads, or are you saying that new people should read older threads and not post at all?

If you don't like a topic, don't post in it. It'll go away. Why force someone to read thirty pages in one thread on Epic Imperial ships when a new one is more likely to draw new posters and different ideas?

Should people be stopped from posting their list idea if that list has been suggested in different threads before? Are rules questions out of bounds if it has been clarified? Should people hand over proof of their search efforts when opening new topics? because that is a sure way to kill a community.

I share your pain sometimes with the "Please critique my squad, it's a decimator plus phantom build" - well sir, it's just like all the effing rest of them!

But on the other hand at least people use the forum. Nothing kills games faster than an unused official forum.

You realize you just did the same thing that your asking others not to-do?

Why is it OK for you and not others?

i have tried to use the search feature on here several times. you either get tons of hits or no hits... unless you ask the same identical question it usually doesn't work unless you want to weed through hundreds of hits on an ambiguous topic like "Range" also i have found that the question i have asked is one folks may have forgot or needed to be reminded of etc. seriously its not like one has to read the topic or even respond.. Which is why i did like it better when we had fewer forums as it was easier to scroll around now i have to "back out" and jump to another forum. But i have noticed the main forum is promptly turning back into what it used to be.. a "catch all" as folks don't want their topics to be missed.. I mean why is the west coast port topic not in the OFF topic forum? particularly now that its about the civil war.. but i digress,,lol

So here are your choices, everyone.

1) Create a new thread, get flamed for not using the search feature.

2) Use search to find something, get flamed for being a thread necromancer.

Have a nice day.

Or couldn't you just read the title of each thread and then just not read the ones that you are not interested in.

On another point, what do you think will be coming out for wave 7.

The search function on here is not good/user friendly.

Banning threads similar to previous threads won't generate new conversation, it'll just result in several monstrously long threads. If a new topic of discussion comes up, someone'll make a thread for it, but duplicate threads don't prevent that in any way, shape or form.

I don't think anyone said anything about banning threads or even necroing. The way I understood it, the OP was upset about a dozen thread topics that get regenerated every day or multiple times a day with no new original content.

Tilaso, ya gotta know the minute you open a thread complaining about complainers... you're going to get cooked.
