US Nationals - UFS House vs. Foxhound in the finals of both events!

By mattkohls, in UFS General Discussion

I will post a full report later on, but just wanted to let you know some quick details now.

On Friday, we had 15 teams and cut to top 4 teams.

Team Foxhound vs. Team UFS House in the finals
We paired Gill vs. Zi Mei, and then they paired Chun li vs. Chun li, and Gill vs. Hanzo.
I beat Mike Lowe in the Chun Li mirror match 2-0, but he would avenge himself on Saturday.
About an hour later, Paul won his match 2-0, and we finally won a team event.

On Saturday, we had 44 players and cut to top 8:

Chun Li - Mike Lowe
Hanzo - Shane Duckworth
Akuma - Paul Bittner
Ibuki - Magnus
Zangief - Omar Chavez
Gill - Jon Herr
Seong Mi-Na - Jeremy Ray
Alex - Garrett Brett

sorry if i misspelled anyone's name above, I'm still pretty tired.

Anyways, the top 8 pairings went like so:

Chun li vs. Alex - Chun li wins 2-0
Hanzo vs. Seong Mi-na - Hanzo wins 2-1
Akuma vs. Gill - Akuma wins 2-0
Ibuki vs. Zangief - Zangief wins 1-0

Top 4:
Chun li vs. Zangief - Chun Li wins 2-0
Akuma vs. Hanzo - Akuma wins 2-1

So the finals features Foxhound and UFS House again! Paul Bittner's Akuma vs. Mike Lowe's Chun Li. In the end Mike pulled it out with a very quick game 3 Feline Spike and a Seal of Cessation to stop Paul's Rejection.

Congrats to Mike for taking the big event. Good job Paul on getting second, it sucks, but at least we're going to be on an asset now.

oh yeah and I got diversified again. . .awesome

****, Magnus and Omar needing to play in first round in top 8. Sadly a predictable field in terms of characters.

But again, congrats to Mike Lowe for beating the Chuns and everyone else!

Oh and sorry for the double post (my request for an edit feature!) but congrats to you guys for overcoming the hurdle. Sucks Paul had to the lose in the finals for the almost completion of the group.

Tuesday - the Akuma deck was heavily inspired by your build. It utilized Tiger Fury as the kill condition and could chain off of all 4 symbols (Paul even had a death chain with SoC in play during the finals match).

Holy crap go Lowe.

that was a low blow >_>

Hey guys, good finals...
At least team Foxhound can safely say "WE DON'T SUCK" happy.gif
And I still firmly believe that if the pairings were different, we may have been able to take it.

Congratz on getting the asset, Paul your ketchup is it's on way, the atlanta crew is mailing it to you.
BTW should I start a canadian ketchup smuggling cartel?

Quick congrats to both teams, one from Canada and one from America. Great groups of guys, deserved finishes all around - and, as always, great fun to watch, play against, and even lose to ^^

Thank you to Matt for promptly posting results, I'm sure the community is (as usual) grateful and was waiting with bated breath.

A quick comment, and in reply to the topic titile. TEAMS.

You should travel in groups as evidenced by these results among others (see Olexa's crew with Jeremy Ray et. al), not only do you stand a better chance of winning in the team competition, you:

a) form tighter bonds with players, and improve your game and experience

b) have a better chance of doing well in singles. If all of your team members are near the top, you have a better chance of not getting the (final 2 game of swiss shaft as I call it).

c) likely bring MORE people to events and strengthen comradary among playgroups

I hope to see lots of teams at Gencon in a little over a month! Including the titular two, of which I hope to have many more quality games against/with in ther future :)

Observer only - so I beg the excuse of all parties if I am wrong - but I can comment that it was very similar to yours Tuesday except ^^

It ran more Strenuous Training - I think 4?

Did not run Amy's

Did not run Superior Witch

Ran a fourth tWoP

Ran more Lynettes (or perhaps sideboarded - but had 3 out mid game vs. Mike game two of finals)

Didn't seem to have Soul Wave main boarded.

That's all I can comment on. And like I said, may or may not be accurate.

ps. it may or may not have run more rejection?
