A New Vessery List

By barabelsftw, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Going to try to play test this at some point. If anyone has thoughts or time to try it out let me know what you think:

Vessery with HLC and either Calculation, VI, or AR (43)

Tempest with title and Accuracy Corrector (21)

2 Scimitars with fletchette torpedoes (36)

I think VI is a waste on Vessery. If you aren't pushing at least PS 9 with VI, then don't bother. Calculation might be fun to turn the HLC into a harder hitting Mangler if you get that 1 focus. Adrenaline Rush is always not bad to throw on a Defender when you have a point. Now I like the list, but I wonder if you dropped the HLC and threw 2 more fletch torps on the scimitars and maybe MF on both? I dunno, just an idea. Might give them a lot more utility.

Probably won't help much as Vessery is still going to be target numero uno.

yeah he'll be primary target regardless. My hope is that I can let him snipe and use the white k-turn to keep him alive as long as possible

I don't agree here.

I tried Vessery with and without Veteran Instinct, and I prefer flying him with VI. There is three main reason why: Dash, Keyan and Echo.

For Dash, since he can't be sure where you'll be, he have a harder time dodging your arc with his boost and barrel roll combined; You can always reajust with barrel roll.

For Keyan, it's mostly due to the HLC and Stay on Target combo. If you move after Keyan, he still have to guess where you'll go and you can always try to get out with your barrel roll.

For Echo, if she has initiative, you move after so again, she'll have trouble dodging your arc since she won't know where you're going. If you have initiative, she'll probably do everything in her power to dodge your arc since you would be shooting at her with 3-4 dice while she's still uncloaked meaning, make your other ships cover some other angles to trap her.

So, since Veteran Instinct only cost 1 and can be really useful against some of the current meta ship, I would suggest taking it.

As for the build, I think it has some merit, but lack in the sense that if Vessery goes down faster than expected, due to bad luck or good flying from your opponent, you'll only be left with 3 ship doing 2 damage at most. My suggestion would be to switch both Bombers (although I really love them!) for a Shuttle and then upgrade the Advanced for Vader.

Something like:

Vessery + HLC + VI

Vader + Title/ATC + Engine Upgrade

Shuttle + Tactician

Alternatively, if you are like me and prefer a Bomber oover a Shuttle, give Predator to Vader and switch the Shuttle for a Bomber with 4 points of ordnance, maybe a Ion Pulse Missiles and Munition Failure so that you can Ionize a big ship once per game for your two hunters to jump on the prey next turn.
