Is there a ceiling to the Wound Threshold? and some other things

By BarbeChenue, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The way I read it, Sturn was talking about removing the WTx2 cap and replacing it with WT+30, so that no matter how high someone’s WT was, they never got more than +30 over that and so they always took a more reasonable time to heal their WT.

WT+30 would be just as hard for a Wookiee at WT=27 to heal from, as it would for a WT=10 Toydarian.

I meant actual max damage of 30. Happy Daze pointed out that's too close for some high end WT's and thus too easy for them to heal up to a conscious state. Brad's interpretation of +30 WT cap (+20?) might work through. Typical PC WT's are what, 11 through high 20's? Average 18-20? The RAW double WT means the cap is around 18-20 points above the typical PC's WT. So, if you just say the cap is always WT+20, it keeps it about the same and high WT PCs aren't penalized with a longer heal-until-conscious time.

Ok one more to throw at you. I've been scribbling...

RAW has you applying a culumlative +10 crit roll per crit. Once past your WT, each "hit" suffers another crit. One of the problems stated above is if that new hit is 1 point of damage or 100 points of damage, the victim still just takes one more crit at +10 cumulative to the roll. Once your WT cap is reached there is no difference in getting poked with a knife or shot with a turbolaser unless the GM gives you an interpretative death (which some players will cry about with no set written rule).

So, how about tossing the +10 cumulative and replacing the crit roll adjustment with adding the victim's total Wounds to the roll? Always regardless of whether the victim has exceeded his WT. Example: A PC has a 12 WT and takes 6 damage, but a crit is activated with advantage. The crit roll has a modifier of +6. Later, the PC takes 10 damage for a total of 16. He is over his WT and unconscious so receives another crit. His total damage of 16 simply gives +16 to the new crit roll. An evil GM strafes his unconscious body with a TIE fighter's laser cannon for 40 damage. He takes another crit since he took damage over his WT again. His total damage is now 56, so he adds +56 to his crit roll.

It's somewhat simpler then keeping track of total wounds for healing and number of crits for the cumulative roll adjustment. Just keep track of the total wounds and add that to any crit rolls. It fixes an issue and leaves you with less to keep track of (only total wounds, not wounds and total # of crits some of whose affects are only one time things and don't need to be remembered).

Using this house rule you could toss the WT cap or still use it but only for tracking healing time. Example: RAW WTx2 for the PC above means when he finally gets around for healing (having lived through the TIE attack), he starts healing at 24 Wounds not 56.

Thoughts?

I'll look over it in detail sometime soon. My research papers are coming due at the end of the week and my mind has already spend too much time in AGFFA.

AGFFA = Advisory Group on Financial Flows to Africa? :) Only thing that turned up in my google search.

Done yet? :)

Edit: Now I'm so embarrased since I just realized what it stood for. I just lost an entire Star Wars Fan rating level. Can I retain my rating by knowing who Wormie is?

Not done yet. I still have one more paper to go (for Healthcare Outcomes). I'm actually in an online collaborate session for that class as I type this.
