rexlar + HLC

By Flyingbrick, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I am sorry if this has been posted before but i will ask. As i am reading his ability, it does apply also to the hlc as well does it not?

I don't see a reason why it wouldn't.

Rexlar's ability does not care what type of weapon you used, so long as the attack you did dealt some amount of damage cards, if you still have a focus token left over, you can spend it to flip all of those cards face up.

Edit: keep in mind if you only had 1 focus token during the attack, and you spent it to convert [eye] results to [boom] results, you would no longer have a token to spend to flip the cards face up.

Thanks, it does sound like some wise choices would be in order to make good use of his skill.

The order of operations goes like this:

1) Rexlar rolls attack dice for an HLC attack

2) any Crits are immediately changed to Hits

3) Modify Attack Dice step(Taret Lock, Focus, etc.). Any Crit results at this step are no longer affected by the HLC's text.

4) Defender rolls defense dice

5) Modify Defense Dice Step

6) resolve damage, deal cards for any uncancelled hits or crits(resulting from re-rolls during step 3)

7) Rexlar's ability

You can only trigger Rexlar's ability at step 7 if he still has a Focus token at this point. But as has been pointed out, the HLC does nothing to stop Rexlar's ability from working. It doesn't even necessarily prevent you from inflicting crits from the attack, it just flips any from the initial roll at step 1.

Also bear in mind if he gets a crit that has an effect followed by flipping it face down that card gets flipped back up when rexler activates his ability.

thanks for clarifying this. Hobojebus what i am reading from your comment is kind of like this, Ohh look you have a blinded pilot, you say nope i get to flip it over, and then Rex say haha yea right flip that baby right back over lol.

Not quite. Rexlar can't flip cards that are already on the ship, only ones he inflicted this combat round. An example of what Hobojesus is talking about is Minor Explosion. Say there's an uncancelled crit at step 6, and it's a Minor Explosion. The victim rolls an attack dice and resolves it; if they don't roll a hit, fine, Minor Explosion goes facedown, but if they do they suffer an additional face down damage card, and Minor Explosion still flips face down. Then, Rexlar triggers his ability at step 7, at which point both Minor Explosion and potentially the additional face down card it inflicted get flipped up, and ME gets resolved a second time.

Then, Rexlar triggers his ability at step 7, at which point both Minor Explosion and potentially the additional face down card it inflicted get flipped up, and ME gets resolved a second time.

I don't think the additional damage card is flipped face-up. After all, it wasn't the attack that dealt the card.

FAQ Page 13, emphasis FFG in the FAQ

"Any faceup damage cards that have been resolved and flipped down and any additional damage cards dealt by the Minor Explosion Damage cards are also flipped faceup when Rexlar Brath uses his ability."

A Minor Explosion when Rexlar still has a focus can really wreck your day.

Sounds like Rexlar can be a bad man a very bad man ;)

Once every millennium, when the stars align, yes, Rexlar is a very bad man.

It's true you kinda need either luck or external help like a shuttle passing over a TL to get his ability off but when it works it works well.

You know every dog has his day. Well once in a while ;)
