New Death Star turrets

By Rob Jedi, in X-Wing

Just got the new GF9 Space Station Moon and two packs of Space Station Lasers . Looks pretty cool with ships. Trying to decide if I want more laser towers. The mat looks like a good improvement on the old one. The grid is much bigger and at a dynamic angle which should fix the problem people had with the old one (know a lot of players that won't play on it in tourneys, the grid freaks them out or something). No idea if the mat tiles with a 2nd mat for epic.

Dude! I have been wanting this mat set up for months! Did you get it directly from GF9 website?????

How many come in a box. I went to the site, but it doesn't say under the description.

Thanks,

Actually, if you go to the store page and click on the back of the box, it looks like it comes with one of each.

I think the lack of wanting to play on it in a tourney is more of a it's sooo freaking busy it's easy to lose track of a ship or a rock or something. It doesn't look like that one has as much of an issue with it though, and it looks great with the turrets on it.

This. I have played on these mats and while they look very cool, in actual play, there are way too busy. It was simply too easy to "lose" things, forget ships, tokens, etc.

$30 for 3 turrets seems kind of pricey to me. Any more affordable options out there?

Also, does anyone have good rules for turrets?

Trust me when you get them and see how nice they are its not too pricey. They are super nice models.

Be thankful someone made them at all. I gladly paid $30; would have paid double.

I'm thinking that it's not worth it. You would need to spend at least $60 to make it worth it, and I could probably find some on Shapeway for cheaper. Or at least the same price, but I like better.

it says 39.99.

Are you seeing 30?

Ouch! That's even worse! No, you are right. I think I didn't get past the first digit before I cringed.

Call me a cheapskate, but I won't pay that for those. You only get 3?

I know what will really happen.

As soon as I buy them FFG will come out with official ones and I will be sad :( and broke.

The nice part is that we already have rules for various types of hard points. The question is: how do you decide on how much energy per turn those things get?

I'd say you have energy for the whole structure. You get to decide to shoot a number of them, or shoot them with the re-roll.

I know what will really happen.

Yeah... DAT!

Well then hurry up and buy these so the rest of us can get the FFG versions.

Sheesh, its always about you isn't it. Think about the rest of us for a change.

:P ;)

Yeah... stop being so **** selfish!

Maybe DagobahDave will create a PDF for a paper version soon?

Well isn't about me? My wife bought me a Tee-shirt that says it's all about me. :P

There are at least three paper turrets (PDF) on the Internet. One for a price, the other two for free. I thought they weren't so bad, thought the miniature in hi detail would still be cool. Two of them are good size for this game.

Do the turrets rotate? I cannot see any images of these "off angle" which is a little strange if they are meant to be turrets.

You could magnetize them very easily I should think.

Get to work on that Ken!

Those are the best card ones you can get but cost $20 for 4 printouts I beleive. You can't get that one as a PDF and rhe ones available as PDFs don't look good.

Back to the GF9 ones, the towers and turrets stack with square pegs and sockets so you can't rotate the turret but you can have it change facing by 90 degrees. Which rules wise I think would be easier to manage: Turret has 90 degree firing arc like a ship which is easily worked out from the base of the tower, choose a facing at the start of the movement phase then ships can try and evade them. I'd make the turbolasers use the same rules as for the corvette's range 3-5 guns. The ion cannon though is a ball that fits in a dish base and can rotate as mych as you want, so a bit trickier to use. Might need something to work out arc on it. Rules wise I'd treat it the same as the turbo laser but say it deals 1 damage and however many hits you rolled in ion tokens so it can be effective at shutting down large or epic ships.

For collisions I'd use the overlapping ship rules since you obviously can't stop on top of the things like an asteroid but you still roll for damage, so they are like a stationary ship with anti pursuit lasers.

This is a must have for us, but $80 for the mat and pieces is more than I am willing to spend.
