Greyjoy LCG Winter Deck, Resource control

By master_death, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I really like the Greyjoy Theme of milling decks and limiting resources. Our group started only a few month ago, so we have only the starter + the time for ravens expansion. I would like to hear your oppinion how to improve this deck with the limited card pool, greyjoy has at the moment. Its putting up a good fight in multiplayer and joust as well, but winning is difficult versus a full deck.

The List:

House Greyjoy, Kings of Winter Agenda

Plots:

A Time for Ravens (for getting that early bird)

Rule by Decree (By reducing gold, cards tend to accumulate)

Rains of Autumn, Blockade, Fleeing to the Wall (Gold Control)

Power of Arms, Winds of Winter (Claim 2 Plots with STR manipulation)

Deck:

Characters (29)

3 x Desperate Looters (Prime claim fodder)

3 x Carrion Birds (Fodder + Stealth)

3 x Island Refugee (Fodder + Ironborn + Dirt Cheap)

3 x Scavengers of the Sea (High STR, low price, but Cardadvantage)

3 x Ice Fisherman (Gold Control + Fodder, but unreliable)

3 x Weathered Crew (High Str, too expensive sometimes, the Respones is one of the worst of all scattered armies)

3 x Winter Time Marauders (Powerful, just good)

2 x Pirates of Orkmont (Great army, will soon add a third)

1 x Shae (Kneel + Intrigue)

1 x Varys (Stealth + Intrigue)

1 x Theon Greyjoy (A failsafe if its summer, a killer vs. Stark or other Greyjoy + he is a Lord)

1 x Mance Rayder (Cheap, powerful Tricon)

1 x Allanys Greyjoy (Intrigue + Cheap + Handcontrol, but unreliable)

1 x Magister Illyrio (Intrigue + Gold Control)

Attachements (7)

1 x Warhorn (Location Control)

3 x Fishing Net (Character Control)

3 x White Raven

Events (9)

3 x Thuggish Tactics (Sounds good, but there are not enough Ironborn in the deck. I will probably drop them for now)

2 x Distinct Mastery (Good, enough Crest characters to use it)

1 x Winter Reserves, Spy in their Midst, Beguiled Bodyguard, Missing Recruit (to good to pass)

Locations (15)

3 x Winter Armada (Especially good with the pirates of orkmont)

1 x Den of The Wolf (Experimental, not yet tested)

1 x Street of Steel, Street of Sisters (Reducers, Blacklane was not useful as I have not enough Intrigue Chars)

1 x Sunset Sea, 2 x Crossroads

3 x Fiefdoms, 3 x 0 for 1 Gold (Proxies)

Again, I have only the Time of Ravens at my disposale. I will probably take the Thuggish Tactics out and add another Crossroad and the third Pirates. Maybe I can get my hands on another Warhorn. What do you say?

i'd drop the 2 crossroads for 2 more sunset seas.

I'd drop blockade for some other control plot (maybe a reset).

I'd drop the reins event for 2x sudective promise and 2x support of the kingdom.

Those moves should make you mush less impacted by the -1 gold winter penalty, still allow you to do simular things with the cards, and provide more kinds of control.

Edit: you might also want to look into dropping the rule by dcree (its almost redundant w/ your agenda) for Fury of the Kraken (even though its i nthe clash of arms CPs)

I assume "reins event" means reinforcements? I am not yet familiar with this games "language" :D

Thanks for your input.

heh sorry, yes that is what i meant by reins events. Its actually my Travian speak not my GoT speak coming out there.

With Reset you mean either Valar or Wildfire, correct? As I have serious trouble handling Valar if I play it myself (I hate that claim 0) I will add the Wildfire, although its not that reliable by dropping Rule by decree. I really like Blockade to fortify a good field position. The reinforcements went out for Promise and Support.

The Crossroads will stay for now, as noone wants to trade the Sunset Sea at the moment. That leaves as a last Problem the Thuggish Tactics. The Ironborn prerequisite is really a problem, and at the moment, that card is a dead draw. I think I would like to replace them with a third Distinct Mastery and a third Pirates of Orkmont. That leaves one Card open. Any ideas? Maybe a Heart of the Kingdom or a Tower of Joy?

Well Kings of the Sea is coming out in 2-4 weeks I believe. I imagine that you'll find more Ironborn traited characters in there. If there is more Ironborn characters looking at Saltwife as a way around Valar may be very helpful. You also have the possibly of more mill in which case Kraken Tattoo makes a lot of sense giving Intimidate and the Ironborn Trait.

I think Greyjoy could conceivably jump to one of the top three houses with the release of KotS.

I really hope for more milling in Kings of Sea. Nothing like taking a few cards of the deck and hearing the opponent curse as you hit his "a lannister pays his debt" :D I know about Kraken Tatoo and Saltwife, but I fear I cannot get my hands on them. Our local retailer didn“t get his shipments yet.
