JJ Abrams asked Disney to move date for Star Wars

if it just got on the boat we will not be seeing it this year...

How would moving the date back help?

The longer it takes to release the higher the chance of some N Korean hacker getting hold of it and releasing it on the internet.

he doesn't want to do that

IKwiz is reporting that JJ Abrams asked Disney to move up the release date of Star Wars Episode 7 The Force Awakens. The site claims that JJ Abrams is bothered by the leaks of the film and he wants to move the date so the fun is not spoiled before the December release. Here is the source:

All I have to say is "God let this be true!"

All of these "Movie vs. Book" comparisons generally miss the point. In general I hope we can agree that having a movie heavily based on a book could lead to the book being seen as a massive SPOILER to the movie. The comparison is why should having some spoilers around be such a concern that the next Star Wars movie would need its release date changed.

Try to change the release date on something like Star Wars is INSANE. It is one thing if it was just a movie but if anyone thinks it will be less than an event probably needs to be checked on. The studios have learned that the entire industry does better when movies like that are planned out to help avoid conflict which lowers total revenues. Moving Star Wars would not only alter it but would send ripples through the entire industry which could do far more damage than even some major spoilers.

Of course if someone hacks Disney and steals the movie the studio may need to act if the threat is to release it for free. While I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to see it early and for nothing I hope we can agree that such an event would be a major crime. I know there are worse crimes but when it comes to some white collar type stuff that could be one of the biggest value hauls every disclosed.

When they pushed back GIJOE 2, Hasbro wasnt' happy about it. They had all them action figures lined up for co release. (Not sure if the movie company had to pay compensation, but i believe they did.)

Now imagnine that with star wars, the movie that invented tie- in action figures! Hasbro won't let that stand. Ever.
