Scam Alert! translucent dice

By Parsaver, in X-Wing

i don't understand why people pay so much for swag no matter what game it is

to me the swag means nothing unless i've earned it myself or traded it fairly for other swag. People need to stop with all this egotistical B.S.

who are you really impressing?

i'm impressed only by those that show skill in the game or are making one hell of an effort trying and they have my utmost respect

not the people who payed for their swag

sorry

Executor, not everyone is as lucky as us to have a playgroup like ours. Some people do prefer acrylics over cardboard - and as such buy acrylics. Although spending $130 for dice is a bit much. Glad you, BGfish and I earned ours.

Caveat Emptor

The majority of the human race doesn't speak Latin.

That was Galactic Standard wasn't it

Seriously the translation was right below the saying; which I have heard being said by several non-latin speaking people.

How about this: http://bit.ly/tUh5Bv

$130 for dice?

There's this saying out there that I can't recall... something about a fool and his money...

Caveat Emptor

The majority of the human race doesn't speak Latin.

No one speaks Latin it's a dead language, much like ancient Hebrew and Sanskrit.

We have written examples but actual speaking it is just a best guess nothing more.

Also any one stupid enough to pay $130 for dice deserves to lose their money, economic survival of the fittest.

Some of us seem awful smug about stupid people throwing money away, when we've invested hundreds of dollars in little toy spaceships to fight against each other with.

FFG convinced us that one set of little bits of plastic are worth a lot of money (we use them to play a game, and to take part in that game we have to use the right little bits of plastic in the right way). I don't think we need to be condescending about it, that someone else was also convinced that other little bits of plastic are worth a lot of money.

I'm also smug about the fact i use pounds :)

So am I. Kilograms suck. :P

Thank you for your completely unsolicited opinion on why you don't care and are so much cooler than the op who wanted to buy themselves a different set of dice. One day I hope to be like you, but until then I'll have to keep clutching onto my altered cards and precious acrylic templates. Oh please, PLEASE , let them impress my opponents.

maybe i came across wrong. but these items are not worth the price people are asking for and the folks that pay that price for them..... they are acrylic dice for f's sake!!!.

yes i earned mine, but even if i hadn't. i would NEVER pay that kind of money just so i have something to show off.. because that's what it all boils down to and why i bring up that point

i badly want more shield tokens, but i'm sure as hell not going to pay for them. in the end they mean nothing and they do nothing for the game. So why the obsession to pay ludicrous prices for tokens just to have them?

i really don't understand this mentality in people

i feel like there are too many people that don't understand the value of a dollar

these are the same people in my hometown that cause housing inflation to become so bad that the general public can't afford to own homes anymore. condo's that sell for over a million for 1000 sq ft of living space.. give me a break

see the point your missing is that this game is a form of entertainment

entertainment always comes with a cost and it is decided by those willing to pay such a cost.. i may have spent a few hundred into plastic space ships, but i've got thousands of dollars worth of entertainment value out of them

and i have super worn dials to prove it

these are the same people in my hometown that cause housing inflation to become so bad that the general public can't afford to own homes anymore. condo's that sell for over a million for 1000 sq ft of living space.. give me a break

That's a really...obtuse way of looking at it.

The ones that are driving up housing prices *around the world* are investment funds. Gangs of rich people who don't know or care which houses they own.

The whole thing is managed by underlings.

And the real estate agents love it because they earn more per sale if the prices are high.

People who play games like this one, CCGs etc, like to have their treasures.

If they can afford it and it will make them happy, then let them buy expensive dice or tokens.

But then you don't get to make an obnoxious post where you name-drop that you've won some, right?

I don't think name dropping means what you think it means.

I don't have to be missing a point to disagree with it. I understand that this game is a hobby, and that hobbies cost money.

What I don't understand is -- just as a for instance -- why the sort of someone who's bought at least 48 small ships, 6 large ships, and 2 epic ships thinks it's cool to brag about having spent somewhere around $1,000 on some pieces of plastic, but thinks it's okay to call someone else stupid or egotistical for spending $130 on some other pieces of plastic.

Everything we buy is stupid to someone. Everything we post is egotistical to someone. Someone, somewhere, thinks it's absurd that you've casually mentioned winning your dice (over and over again), because to them that makes it a silly waste of time and money, right? We're all here to talk about starfighter toys, so we shouldn't take it all too seriously, y'know? Let's just be careful not to hurt ourselves falling off high horses, is all I'm saying. I'm not trying to bust your chops, here, man, but can't you see how that's a little weird? Maybe a little hypocritical?

It's unfortunate that folks got conned. It's unfortunate that folks, for whatever reason, felt the need to buy some dice (instead of earning them), in the first place. It's unfortunate all around. I don't think we need to throw stones, is all, especially while we're in that proverbial glass house, ourselves.

yeah the people buying up all the housing for money making are laughing all the way to the bank now. but will cry later when the market finally crashes hard, property drops to a mere fraction of what it is now and i'm sure they'll all cry for bailouts because nobody can buy anymore. while the rest of the population is left scratching our heads wondering how we all never saw it coming

getting back to the dice; the problem remains that sellers intentionally rip people off (which is just morally and ethically wrong) all in the name of greed.

i guess i just hate our capitalist society for the most part. If people have so much money to burn on such trivial things such as $130 for a few dice that are truly worth only a few dollars. Shouldn't the money be put to better uses? i'm sure the local animal shelters could use that money. and you'd be helping save furry little lives

looks like they've been relisted...I'm glad they haven't sold yet, at least....not for lack of trying...

Honestly, I wish we could report this for some violation, instead of the seller getting away with it and making crazy profits....ugh.

Selling copies of copyrighted materials is against ebay's user agreement. FFG could also be contacted.

Yeah, but FFG would have to contact eBay, only the rights holder (or their authorized agent) can submit a takedown request.

Yeah, but FFG would have to contact eBay, only the rights holder (or their authorized agent) can submit a takedown request.

Actually, anyone can submit a report on Ebay for suspicious auctions. A user just can't send them a notice that they need to remove an auction.

Isn't that what I said? That only FFG or an authorized agent can send a takedown request? More specifically a DMCA takedown request on copyright infringement grounds. Like most large sites eBay is quite responsive. I have had auctions use my photography without permission. I have had those auction taken down. Generally speaking I only use that for auctions that are misleading as well as using my imagery inappropriately. Lots of auctions use my images of alt-art cards.

Suspicious reporting is something different.

My mistake. It looked like you were saying only a copyright holder can report for copyright issues (when anyone can but it may not carry much weight).

Maybe other people aren't as obsessed with showing off as you are Mr Projection, maybe they just /like/ the things.

Why are people getting so hurt over some of us thinking someone is foolish for spending $130 for dice? Dice that would run about $14 if they weren't "pretty?"

I too am in the camp of "a fool and his money are soon parted." How many more ships could one buy for that amount of money...you could buy into a new game for that!!

You can spend $130 on dice if you want..that's your choice...but we are allowed to feel that it is a foolish purchase...and voice that opinion...that being said if I had a real set of these dice I would sell them...of get more value out of $130 than some stupid see thru dice...

EDIT for spelling...stupid fone

Well, I have two answers with that.

Firstly, it wasn't the suggestion that it was a silly purchase, it was the assumption that he knew why the purchaser was purchasing, ie the assertion that they were doing to "to show off". Arrogant and presumptuous, I think.

Secondly, nobody but the purchaser knows how much enjoyment those dice will bring them, so how can you say they're not worth it? Certainly it might be a silly purchase given how much you'd enjoy them, compared to how much money you have, but we're not talking about you.

Fair enough on your first point.

But regarding the second...you know as much as we do...why do you feel the need to defend him? Would this be a good purchase in your eyes? I don't know you so I don't really know...but we aren't talking about you either....

As far as I am concerned anyone willing to spend $130 for some dice (some DICE!!) has more money than sense...I can't fathom why anyone would spend so much on something so trivial....these work no better than non see thru dice.

Perhaps you could enlighten me as to how these could ever be worth the cost?

It would be worth the cost if he gets a lot of enjoyment out of it (and the more money he has the less enjoyment that needs to be), that's all there is too it! I wouldn't enjoy it that much, but then $130 is a lot to me, and the enjoyment wouldn't be huge (not insignificant, I'd be tempted to buy official plastic tokens for quite a bit, that's not that different), but I don't feel like I should judge people just for finding things more notable than I do. I can understand people doing this more than I can people who liked Final Fantasy XIII.

Hey I'm a heartbeat away from spending $130 on a set of dice..... the difference though is that these I designed myself so it's a matter of pride..... and they're stainless steel. And yes, I realize they're not tourney legal. And no I'm not selling them, personal consumption only.

And through my powers as a mathamagician, they are balanced so they actually might (will) perform better than the stock ones.

But I agree, I probably do have more money than sense.
