Integrated Weapons and Crimson Exemplars

By JupiterExile, in Only War Rules Questions

The Crimson Exemplar specialization in Shield of Humanity has a Lathe-Las as part of his standard kit, which is statted out as an integrated weapon. The specialization also has a purchasable passive advance that converts a basic weapon into an integrated weapon. The advance can be bought a number of times up to toughness bonus, but do integrated weapons acquired through other means count towards this limit?

Integrated weapons require an Exotic weapon proficiency, but Crimson Exemplars don't gain this proficiency when taking the advanced specialization. So, they need to purchase this in order to effectively utilize their standard kit Lathe Las?

There are other integrated weapons in the Extended Armory. If these are acquired, do they count against the integrated weapon advance? There are rules for Integration as a weapon upgrade. Does the Integrate Weapon Advance in the Crimson Exemplar specialization apply the same benefits as the Integrated weapon upgrade? If a weapon integrated via the advance becomes damaged, can a weapon be integrated to replace it at no additional cost (mirroring a fallen comrade)?

When using the Target Lock advance in the Crimson Exemplar specialization, what qualifies and what does not?

Furthermore, if a Flamer is used as part of the attack with Target Lock, how does the Spray quality factor in?

I'm pretty confident that only those gained via the Advance count towards it.

A lot of other things will largely be down to individual GM discretion.

Personally, the way I would like to rule regarding these questions is as follows:

Any weapon integrated via the advance gains the benefits of being an Integrated weapon listed out in the Armory section of Shield of Humanity. Integrated Weapon Training is necessary to reap these benefits, so this training will be necessary to effectively use standard kit weaponry. This is in line with some other specialties that can get power weapons or heavy weapons as part of standard kit but don't necessarily have the training for those weapons. However, the Crimson Exemplar should be offered an alternative standard weapon to create tolerance for the lack of this Training.

I would rule that purchasing the advance gives you a 'slot' with the Integrate Weapon upgrade, and that weapons can be added/removed from this slot using a tech use test and some time. You can have a maximum number of these 'flex slots' equal to TB, and the Target Lock advance only fires weapons in these 'slots'.

I additionally interpret that integrated weapons do not occupy a hand, and will never suffer from off-hand penalties. An integrated weapon may need to by Readied before use, but this is not necessarily a meaningful restriction. A GM may levy interaction/social penalties if a player argues that a weapon is constantly readied on the grounds that the character's bristling armaments are off-putting.

If a spray weapon is used as part of Target Lock, it may affect other targets. Additionally, if a semi-auto or fully automatic weapon is used as part of Target Lock, additional hits may be assigned to targets within 2m of the primary target.
