That's a fairly narrow window of invulnerability and depends on the enemy only having one ship, but yes, it can certainly happen.

how long have you been playing? i ask because this was the entire premise of the list flown by the winner of the world championships last year.

Going against this list, you have no choice but focus fire on the Falcon as fast as possible, don't waste your shots on the Zs. Also, this build is made to work against the current 2 ship meta that everyone copy, it is not that great against other lists.

Yup, if this list gets caught by a guy playing a swarm in round one of a tourney... he's toast.

Yeah, best case scenario for you there (if you're down on points) is to get into R1 and try to get four hits, which would overwhelm the 3 from R2. Otherwise, you're basically playing for points and against the clock. Kill the Talas and don't lose 39 points from your own ships before the TO calls time.

Yours is similar to something I ran in a tourney. I had patrol leader with vader and gunner though. You need to exchange the deci for the falcon. Hit it with everything and Vader Vader vader. But I could be a little different because gunner usually let me Vader twice.

Was this while you still had other ships? Otherwise, this seems like a bad tradeoff. With R2D2 and the Falcon title, the Falcon player should be able to control damage taken so that your normal attack hits the R2D2 shield, which prevents Gunner. At that point, you're suffering two damage to cause the Falcon to suffer one critical damage.

In the right circumstances any list can make it impossible for your opponent to win.

For example my 8 Z-wing list cannot be beaten as long as all my opponents ships are 1 movement template away from the edge of the board and they are all pointed at said edge.

I'm not saying that this isn't a very powerful combination, maybe even too powerful, not saying what those circumstance are that make it unbeatable misses a very important part.

The reason? You don't have to give 2 ***** about getting a shot, it will almost always be given to you. Sometimes, all you need to win a game are a few good throws to reduce the enemy down past the point where they can plausibly kill you without a miracle.

There are a lot of situations in the endgame where it's decided before it's decided. If a shuttle is your last ship, it's decided. In my last game, I had a rookie xwing and my opponent had Turr. both ships were at full health. It was decided. I could block him, but it was impossible to shoot him. Game over.

I do think the combo is overpowered (cue fanboy rage and zealotry) but it is legal, so we must live with it.

frankly, i dream of facing that han list with my tie swarm, as will any swarm player. everything has it's weakness. however, any build can take this on, you just have to make **** sure you kill Han before his escorts, and before he kills too many of your ships. if you fail to do that, you will probably lose.

Yeah, I find the same issue exists for a PTL Corran Horn with R2D2, FCS and the Hull Upgrade. If you don't kill him quickly, he becomes almost unstoppable in endgame. Three evade dice, plus a focus and evade token on defense and the ability to regenerate up to three shields. It's part of why he's been such a common sight at the store championships, but I haven't seen anything close to the levels of hatred for him that Phantoms and turrets get.

Had a game against Echo and Boba that came down to super Boba versus my Jake Farrel

Jake Farrel took the win. Why? Because I know how a firespray moves, how it orientates its arcs, and how I can get around those possible variations especially when they're limited by table-space and obstructions. As long as it has an arc, there is a possibility of working around a superior profile.

You cannot do that with turrets. It is literally impossible to dodge them. Against fat han, can even be literally impossible to damage them unless they screw up royally.

It was an interesting attempt to make it work, though. Lone Wolf with evades is a hell and a half to chew through.

Serious question before going to work: Should Corran+R2-D2+PtL be nerfed just because a lone Tie Fighter as no chance of winning against it?

If you brought nothing to deal with a turret and are left alone against it in the end-game with a A-Wing, I think you deserve to lose: that's a a 60+pts ship against a 30-pts one. The problem come more from your 70 other points that didn't do his job than the turret ship being overpowered.

Well, to be fair, there is technically a way you can win, even if it's Chewy. First off, R2D2 can flip up crits, including ignore your pilot skill or direct hits (or my favorite, minor explosion). So you can get in double damage from that. Second, you can cause your own crit for double damage or Damaged Sensor Array, so he can no longer take the Evade action. Third, you put yourself in a position where he has to bump you (assuming he's a lower PS) and thus loses his action, then you run away and get a shot without an Evade token. Fourth, you can hope your opponent fails at life and flies into rocks/off the board. Fifth, you can force the R1 (or require him to boost out of R1 - even better!) shot. Sixth, you can use Vader to force another crit through. Sixth, you can bring more than 2 ships so if you lose one you still have two+ to do damage... Just sayin'.

So, while it's not ideal, there are ways to manage, especially if it's only a little bit of hull left.

The real lesson here is learning how to approach that matchup. How you have to fly against it. I'm not going to say anything specific in a public forum, but having seen the game in question, this is definetly the case. Maybe it still would not have been enough, but maybe it would. Look back on how you flew that game and analyze it. It will help you more than the rest of this. This can be said for anyone. Otherwise, you're doomed to be in the same situation next time.

Next time I go straight after han and I now know that r2 ability happens at the end phase so vader's crit would happen before he replaces a shield. I realized that too late because I was unaware of the timing and when my opponent was putting a shield back on I mistakingly thought I would simply be removing the shield instead of actually inflicting a crit
