Turrets are underpowered... kinda.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I thought that we got sub-forums so that we wouldn't have to see this kind of topic anymore.

The most important thing, of course, is that we must all sternly disapprove when someone dares to have a little fun.

I know playing with our plastic toys is serious business and all that, but I don't think it really hurts anything to let a little silliness escape quarantine and slip into the main discussion area, do you? Look how often threads in the general discussion area could or maybe even should be in the theory/net-listing subforum, after all. How often do we complain about those? Not very often, right? So I don't think it's all that bad for a little light-hearted fun to leak out, too.

When even Paul Heaver makes silly starfighter "swoosh" sounds during major tournaments, it's not the end of the world for us all to grin like dorks and watch the Falcon fly around and shoot stuff for a minute or two, y'know?

I just want to know why the gunners went to sleep when they entered the death star superstructure. Good old lando sticking a friendly on his 6 while his gunners do nothing. They should have really had a turkey shoot in those tight spaces, but those gunners didn't fire a shot once they entered the death star interior. If I would have been that pilot behind lando, I would have had something for him when we got back to base.....just saying.

Hell no, once Lando clipped that sensor dish you think those guys were going to stick around in those gun-wells without hazard pay?

Alas, the forum only allows me to like your comment once :(

There are REAL likes too my Star Brother... and they transcend the forums.

:)

From now on when one to many fuss about the game topics get posted I am going to post something cool like this.

I have been here to long to allow hate to rule, or snarky debate either for that matter.

:D

Many topics are considered generally applicable to X-WING... and I can think of nothing (other than smart and cool inquires about general stuff) being more relevant than a STAR WARS TOPIC.

See how The Falcon kills off three TIE Interceptors in about ten seconds...

It also seems to suggest that the Falcon is indeed faster and more manoeuvrable than an Interceptor...

Well it did have a gunner and Nein Numb on it. So green 4 straights on a big base and the ability to attack again after missing. Seems legit.

True. I would still like to see the Barrel-roll as an included goodie, also a +1 Red in the primary front arc.

So Lando had expert handling and they also had concussion missiles, just like the movies.

There it is. You can make the Large Ships work like they did in the films!

:)

So other than being very bad players of our wonderful game... why do some people want to nerf our wonderful Large Ships?

:o:mellow::angry:

Hell-Nah!

:D

Those poor interceptors. I don't think a single one rolled an evade in that entire battle.

What about the tie that rolled a crit directly on moving over an obstacle in the death star. Hard luck that.

Actually, Timothy Zahn explains away the garbage that was the Battle of Endor in his book Heir to the Empire. In it Grand Admiral Thrawn claims that the Imperials lost because they no longer had the Emperor controlling their actions in battle (with his full attention on Luke and then of course with after the Emperor was killed. Zahn through his character Thrawn argues that because most of the Imperial Navy (and certainly Death Squadron in particular) was so accustomed to having their combat augmented (at least, if not completely controlled) by the Dark Side of the force, they were unable to continue with anything but token resistance when their puppet master was gone. This notion continues throughout the Thrawn trilogy and culminates when a dark jedi clone (much less powerful than the Emperor or Vader) took full control of the mind of every crewer of Thrawn's flagship, and many of those crewers simply collapsed when they were released after only a few moments under the Dark jedi's full control.

Actually, if you really thought about it, there were also a few dozen Star Destroyers in that battle, and they get routed by a handful of Mon Cals and other support craft; even more preposterous than the stupid falcon taking out a few ties in quick succession.

And out of all that the only thing which still counts is the ROTJ battle as presented on the film clips.

:D

If I had some cool little Asian Fish Guy co-piloting and talking that crazy "Midia-mutie-mu-a-wadue!" talk I would would go faster too!

Really??!

Just when I think he can't find a new crevasse...

I think things are about right. A fully kitted out Falcon performs about as shown.

What upgrades Niem Numb of course, Engine Upgrades, without a doubt, Title card, no debate on that one. Gunner, of course. Probably Outmaneuver.

The Falcon with a Gunner and Outmaneuver can one shot Interceptors pretty well, it does work better with Han at the controls of course.

Direct link to the scene or just scoot the time tingie to 2:50 and watch the battle right here... all convenient like.

Notice one important fact: Primary Arc Range 1.

This supports my theory that you should only gain +1 dice at range 1 when the target is in your primary arc. Thanks for helping support that idea with this video. :) It's just makes sense for all 360 primary weapons and you helped support that.

I actually really like this idea. I would add auxiliary arc as well. Parallax would actually make a close range shot harder when firing to either side. Firing out the front or back arc should be augmented by a close range but otherwise not. This could be FAQ'd fairly easily.

It looks like a turret is better at range 1 in their firing arc. Maybe they should get to turn a hit into a crit to better represent that? After all, this video is canon support of the idea, right?

Yeah it does show that. It also shows that a quad blaster cannon setup should have four attack dice. Look at that machine gunning effect on the third kill... after all.

:)

So Falcons & Decimators have four attacks. Fire out of arc with the glorious 360. Get a +1 when firing in their front 45 arc. Get a +1 Crit when firing in that front arc at range one.

Got it!

:D

See we did fix it up!

Great!

So your all in agreement with me that: (See I can use sarcasm too)

So:

All 360 Primary Weapons only get +1 Dice from range 1 in Primary Arc only. Just like every other ship in the game without a 360 firing arc except for Slave.
Let's face it they already get to shoot 360, which is a huge boon and requires very little piloting skill with these ships right now, so why should they get +1 when your not in their primary arc. Even a bigger boon. It really doesn't make sense game wise. This forces ships to actually point at their target to get the biggest bonus, sounds like every other ship in the game, doesn't it.
I understand why people would complain about removing the ability to get +1 always, because then they would have to learn to fly their big ships better.

:)

How much of an issue do you really have getting shot at range 1? Apparently they must be flying pretty well if your opponent constantly manages to stay in close range.
