They are BIG, they are Mean, they are my 2 fingers to the meta. I give you Space Bovines

By Englishpete, in X-Wing Squad Lists

The following is my general "2 fingers" to the current meta. My madness and my desire to fly something that my opponents just won't be expecting.

Lots of hit points (check)

Causes lots of stress (check)

Fast across the table (check)

Good firepower (check)

IS NOT THE META (oh hell check)

Omicron Group Pilot (33)
Advanced Sensors, Tactician, Rebel Captive, Engine Upgrade

Omicron Group Pilot (33)
Advanced Sensors, Tactician, Mara Jade, Engine Upgrade

Omicron Group Pilot (34)
Advanced Sensors, Tactician, Ysanne Isard, Engine Upgrade

At first glance this list is weak, who the hell flies 3 space bovines today?

Having looked past it's initial seeming weakness, it actually is quite nasty. All three ships cause stress in various ways. All three ships are quick and surprisingly mobile.

They can all block very effectively and are quite hard to kill.

I guess we'll see if I'm still laughing after the weekend.

I will take my list immediate outmanuever put of your arc. You cannot k-turn and your ps will mean j can adjust

Do it! You've got a lot of board coverage from three large bases. Any swarm is player will cry when you stick one of those in his path. EU isn't necessarily going to make you as maneuverable as you'd like so get lots of practice games in. I took the only shuttle to my store championship and it shone as people just don't practice against them.

you line that herd up right it has arc over the entire board...no k-turn? no problem. zoom around th eboard with engine upgrade

The beauty of the Engine Upgrade is with Adv. Sensors and a hard 2 is that I can turn the inside of the fire arc 180 degrees.

I've flown 3 shuttles with success before, I usually have a Gunner, but in today's 1 AGI meta, that is wasted, hence the other crew.

I think it's worth running, really like all the stress you are putting out. I might drop ysanne for something different on a shuttle (love her on a deci though) I think it's funny that He's just going to "fly out of your Arc" Really? I thought I had 3, and I can cover most of my end of the board with that. Not syaing he might not get behind you, but engine upgrade and your stop manuver help here, as does one of the other shuttles covering your 6 with his Arc.

I'm not saying your list is invincible, but I don't think it's as easy to defeat as bloodstripe baron makes it sound

I can tell you from experience that it is not. I have piloted my Gunner version of this to top 4 finishes in 20+ people tournies :-)

Ysanne was my only "not sure" choice. Not sure what I'd replace her with though.

Ion Cannon maybe?

Fleet Officer ?

Ironically, non popular lists like 4 Xs or Bs would tear you a new one, but since you don't see a lot of those you can probably do decently with this list. Isard does seem like a waste of points. By them time she kicks in your shuttle will only have 3 or 4 hitpoints left. Likely she won't even go off twice. I'd go with an Ion Cannon and Intel Agent. IA will help you be a little more reactive with your Adv. Sensor boosts.

Intel and Ion Cannon were my thoughts. Feet Officer adds stress, which I don't like on shuttles.

I was running something similar, had gunner, ion cannon, fire control, engine, tactician on 2 of them, one was more basic. Really did a number on the enemy. Only lost because the shuttles blocked my view of an asteroid that I managed to get stuck on for 2 turns, slowing down the whole herd. Was a ton of fun to play though

Haha! Nice. Ysanne will be a particularly great idea, who knew we'd ever see evade on a shuttle?

My 2 cents would be to consider turning that last shuttle into:

OGP + FCS + Gunner + Tactician + Engine

34pts

Just to have a good hard hitter, but that's just me. Haha. And I love Gunner + Tactician. You also might not miss Adv Sensors on him since not ALL Shuttles will always live long enough to need it, or you might use this one for self bumping more often, and whatnot.

no stress with advanced sensors + green move :)

Imo upgrade OGP to Yorr > Ion Cannon

I like.

I agree - I don't think Isard's a great plan because by the time your five shields have collapsed AND you've taken at least one damage to the hull, you're only one, maybe two attacks away from death.

If you've got three big bases flying around, a universal issue of anti-pursuit lasers might help.

I'd love to fly a shuttle swarm - the only thing that really stops me is that I can't face buying two millenium falcons AS WELL to get the engine upgrades...

If you like a stress dealing shuttle, try this:

OGP + Accuracy Corrector + Gunner + Tactician + Engine Upgrade (35)

Use AC to cancel all dice results on your first attack (it says MAY add 2 hit results), and give defender a stress. Gunner kicks in, and you can shoot the same target or another and hand out a second stress and some damage.

You, sir, are correct on the wording of AC. That must be an intended use of the card otherwise why add "you may" twice. The idea being on a ship with gunner you can just scrub your first roll all together and try again? Has this been discussed to death somewhere and I missed it?

I vaguely remember it being discussed with Flechette Torpedoes and Munitions Failsafe as an expensive way to deal out stress without losing the ordnance. The general opinion was that it wasn't worth losing an attack for it. A B-wing could set this up, but it can't have Gunner. Both the B-wing/E2 and the Munitions Failsafe are both modifications.

We had a dialogue about the above Shuttle build when I first posted it.
