Does anyone like using Eaden Vrill? I have not tried him yet

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

How did you make use of Vrill, I can't seem to find a way use his ability other than to just hope my opponent causes his own stress.

Do you have a favorite build?

I should mention I only play with friends, no phantom no Rebel vs Rebel

Edited by bmwrider

I have a build or two with him

Nera with two fletcher torpedoes, and hobbies with r3a2.

Village would also be good against ptl builds, opportunist etc

Not sure if competitive but looks like fun

Vrill

Recon specialist

Hobbies

R3-A2

Hull upgrade

Nera

Deadeye

2 fletchet torpedoes

Bwing title

Recon specialist

Or take off recon specialist on Nera and Vrill, and one torpedo and throw a hlc on Vrill.

Use the hlc and when your opponent is out of arc, use your squad to stress and gain that extra dice

I've used this one, and gone 3 wins, 0 loses:

Vrill with recon specialist

Roark with Ion turret, tactician

Hobbie with R3-A2

Bandit Squadron pilot

Vrill is very survivable, and has two people shooting before him who can cause stress to an opponent.

Since Fel and PtL are super popular it isn't hard to get his ability to proc, but the lack of an EPT really hurts him. He is just 2 points less than Leebo (who has a nice defensive pilot ability, especially if paired with Determination), and losing 2 PS and the EPT isn't worth the 2 point downgrade imo.

He is good if you want to run a bare-bones YT, since he doesn't need Outrider + HLC to be able to do damage, so that is saving 12 points. But other than that he doesn't have much use imo.

Want to try this soon;

Eaden Vrill (32)
Recon Specialist (3)

Dagger Squadron Pilot (24)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Flechette Cannon (2)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

Advanced Sensors (3)
Flechette Cannon (2)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

I love rebel control and AS B wings, Vrill seems to fit into that nicely.

He is surprisingly good with an HLC and no title.

Jake VI ptl prockets

2 x prototype chardaans

Eaden Vrill with HLC

Fun and effective. Hits really hard at range 3 on the close or when chasing. Hits hard out of arc or range 1 as well. I have tried gunner instead of the prockets on Jake but it puts a lot of heat on Vrill and he can't tank it.

Joostuh, I'm curious to see if you can "divide" the stress a bit between the 2 b-wings and have one sport the HLC.

b-wing 1:

Advs, flechette cannon (3 points saved)

b-wing 2:
FCS, HLC, E2, Tactician (4 point increase)

or go all out and put both stress related things on the same b-wing, but you're bound to lose the whole stressing mechanism in 1 dead ship.

He is good if a lot of the people you play like to use PTL

This is a list my mate flys with him

Luke Skywalker (28)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R3-A2 (2)

Biggs Darklighter (25)
R2-D2 (4)
Shield Upgrade (4)

Eaden Vrill (32)
Recon Specialist (3)
Tactical Jammer (1)

Total: 100

He just isn't that great. Getting to a 3-dice attack is not a real accomplishment.

Yea Han and Decimators are trash. Agreed.

3-dice out of arc against all ptl targets is pretty good for the price. Unbeatable.

When the Flechette Cannon is released, if you attack an opponent at range 2 while you have Tactician aboard, does the stress stack up and give out double stress?

If so, I can see Eaden + Flechette + Tactician with B-Wing + Flechette + Tactician x2 being a thing. They would essentially neuter your enemy's ships for at least a turn.

Flechette Cannon's stress occurs when you hit, and Tactician's is applied after the attack. So if you hit a target at Range 2, the defender ends up with two stress tokens.

I think Eaden Vril's strength is his low point cost. Adding more upgrades to him is probably unwise in most cases. Think of him as a weak version of the falcon that can sometimes be stronger.

I haven't tried this yet, but in an epic game Eaden Vrill would make a good escort for a GR-75 Transport set up for jamming.

Vrill has two different challenges to struggle through.

First is the power generated by by Outrider and how it is not compatible with Vrill's pilot ability. Vrill has 2 firepower which can go up to 3 if he has his ability triggered. So he can roll 4 dice only at range 1 and only against a stressed opponent where as outrider HLC can roll 4 dice at range 2 and 3 and remove the extra evade dice. With mangler cannon the outrider can roll 3 dice at all ranges and convert one to a crit.

Second is that Vrill's is dependent on outside sources to trigger his pilot ability. As of now there is no way for vrill to stress a ship before his attack. He is either dependent on a XYE with R3-A2 to add the stress during an attack or for his target to do a red maneuver or an action that takes stress. Sure Vrill can tactician and give stress but that is after the attack and won't trigger his ability. So Vrill by himself will not be that good of a ship and in the late game you can count on that happening. Sure it might be better once debris clouds are allowed in competitive matches but still that depends on your opponent actions and if he knows about vrill he won't even attempt a K-turn.

Vrill is mostly good against 2 pilots that are not in allot of use (for now) Soontir Fel and Tycho. Other than that unless you build completely around giving opponent stress Vrill will only be good if your opponent K-turns.

Don't put Vrill in the same class. Han and every Decimator eat him alive.

Having to have a trigger to just get to average attack strength stinks and no EPT.

Now, were he Imperial and could take Rebel Captive, you'd have a combo that would turn my head.

I'm toying with a list built arond Vrill for my local Store Championship.

I've posted about it here.

The list saw some changes. At the moment I'm using this version:

Eaden Vrill — YT-2400

32 Intelligence Agent 1

"Hobbie" Klivian — X-Wing 25

R3-A2 2

Dagger Squadron Pilot — B-Wing 24

Tactician 2

B-Wing/E2 1

Tala Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 13

I'm very happy how it performed so far. I'm standing 5:0 vs different squads. With the right support Vrill is a cheap and heavy hitter.
