Shadow/Sigma Phantoms

Are these guys any good?

Im thinking of running 1 cheap with the Stygium PA, Together with a couple royal guard interceptors(shield and hull upgrades). Both with PTL, one might beeing soontir fel.

The tactic beeing keeping the phantom cloaked a lot, and with all the speed taking out the enemy with movement and hitting hard and evading very good with my own ones.

They're really good as you have them, with the Stygium. I have a list with 3 of those and a Tie fighter, lots of fun! Turrets really hurt that list though...

They're a different type of ship to the two named Phantoms (especially with the SPA set up) but they're great as flankers alongside TIE's as they're a little more resilient than lower PS Interceptors.

I think a sigma with spa, FCS and Intel agent is about the best way to use the none named phantoms. 30 points normally well spent. Don't expect much out of them va fat turrets though

They're essentially xwings with hlc

They can be good, but for the 33 points you will be spending on a PS5 Phantom with FCS & SPA, you could get a lot more bang for your buck (Fel with PTL & hull / stealth for example).

I played a few games with 2 Sigmas and SPA and found that I never really wanted to cloak unless I didn't want to attack. I think it would have been much better had they had ACD equipped instead; that would have made it much harder to predict them every round.

Never used a generic phantom but I'm going to try this list next time I play:

Captain Oicunn (42)
Predator (3)
Ysanne Isard (4)
Rebel Captive (3)
Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16)
Cluster Missiles (4)
Proximity Mines (3)
Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)
Total: 100

Everyone with a large ship or a B-wing is deadly afraid of the Bomber, the Decimator is a beast, having a phantom (even a naked one) in the list is going to make it hard for the opponent to choose targets. Tbh in this list I feel that a naked Phantom is better than a Doom Shuttle or 2xAP

I like running them with SPA and Recon Specialist and keeping them at range three. Basically use them like a B-wing with HLC and then when they get in close you can use them as super blockers

They're amusing to use with Enhanced Scopes and Intelligence Agent so that they always get to move first, and decloak into perfect firing positions.

There was a really neat squad that made it into the top 32 at Worlds that used 2 of the generics.

They're very different beasts to the named phantoms and to be honest, I think they're what FFG had in mind of phantoms playing like when they designed them. They sit at about 30 points rather than the pushing 40-45 that named phantoms cost though so they won't dominate your squadron.

The Worlds variant of them I think is the one with the most promise. This uses Enhanced Scopes so it moves first, Stygium Particle Accelerator, and Intelligence Agent. While it only acts every other round due to having to cloak normally it's the ultimate blocker and almost as potent as Whisper or Echo in a one on one fight. Ironically it probably could take down Whisper or Echo in a 1 on 1 if it manages to stay in Range 1-2 for a round or two.

This thing is freaking deadly and one of the best 30 point options imperials have access to (so competing with Soontir, new vader, and the Delta pilot &, imo, beating all but maybe Soontir handily), but it also requires a lot of concetration and foresight to play correctly.

Imo, the generic phantoms are very powerful and very effective. The reason we don't see them is a.) idiotic turret rules and b.) Whisper is brainlessly easy to use by comparison.

I like this list a lot. The cloak mechanic adds a lot to the game and makes it more fun when you have to actually decided between cloaking and shooting.

I'm thinking you could stick Mara Jade into a SIgma Phantom, perhaps with Stealth Device/hull/shield upgrade. Always keep it cloaked and focused/evaded and just fly it near your opponent.

Phantom is much more fun to play with and against when they aren't super charged.

Is the Fire Control System really that useful? It telegraphs your target for two rounds: it's probably more of a liability than a help. Enhanced Scopes makes them the ultimate blockers.

Yes

FCS doesn't telegraph anything, because you're not required to target the locked ship

On the other hand, it makes those 4 dice you shoot far more accurate rather than a complete crapshoot

In this age of 2 ship bullcrap, you're not getting much option either way and the extra 1-2 damage is essential to get through all the garanteed defenses, hull, and shields.

i totally agree with tie pilot that the generics fly the way the phantom was designed to play. Cloak OR shoot. They are a lot of fun to use this way, and your opponent wont hate you. I highly recommend playing this way in casual games because you and the guy you play against will have way more fun. And that should be the objective of this whole thing anyway.

Sigmas with Stygium and Jammers are nice too. When in doubt stay cloaked and turtle up. When you get in prime shooting position load up and rip them.

I've been having a lot of fun with Stigmas with SPA, Intel Agents, and Advanced sensors. I haven't found anything that I would take to a tournament, but man they're a blast to play, especially with the Adv Sensors. There's something very satisfying about using Intel Agent to see their move, then decide you want to Adv Sensor - Barrel Roll and Decloak to end up 5 ship lengths to the left of your original position before revealing your dial. Or when things work out just right so that you can decloak forward and K-turn for what is essentially a 7 K-turn to land behind your target, with a focus token.

I never thought of that! I can imagine the look on my opponents face when I pull a 7 k with focus! That would be hilarious!
