Should Scum and Villainy have been...

By tk426, in X-Wing

I looked but couldn't really find any other threads on this so I apologize if it's been discussed.

Should SaV have been its own faction or would you have liked to be able to mix SaV with either the Rebels or Imperials

Maybe something along the lines of your squad must contain half of its build in its faction.

My reasoning is, as mercenaries you complete the task as hired to do and you don't care what side your on.

I was hoping that they could be used alone or mixed in with either side. They are pirates and mercenaries after all.

Doing so would have watered down what's left of the initial faction identities even further. It also would have created balance concerns: each new Scum element not only needs to be tested in Scum lists, but also in Imperial and Rebel lists. There are exponentially more interactions that could potentially hurt the game, which likely means more unbalanced interactions slipping through the cracks.

Besides, even when Boba Fett is working for the Empire, we all know he's really only working for himself--and that he can't be trusted.

This is perfect. I never did consider how unbalanced it could get crossing factions.

we already have S&V in the other two factions

Rebels have the Z-95, Y-wing, and HWK

Imperials have the Firespray

:P

I love them just as they are: their own and unique faction. Personally, I didn't like mercenaries in any other games (Warhammer Fantasy I'm looking at you), just because I like the "pure" faction armies. If it depended on me, I wouldn't even have put the Firespray among the files of the empire. But thats my personal oppinion.

Kill me now imperial Firespray lovers! :D

(Sorry if my english was bad or hard to understand)

I get the impression they released the Firespray a long time before there were any plans for S&V.

It was wave 2...so I am going to agree w you.

Issues of balance aside, I am very glad SaV is a stand alone faction. Although I own a firespray I have never used it because, for me, it has no place amongst my imperial heroes. I do however look forward to seeing it on the table once scum hits.

I'm also looking forward to SaV precisely because it IS a third faction. When teaching my daughter the game shy quickly said she had no interest in flying "rebel scum" and sided with the Empire. SaV will either be shiny enough to draw her away from the imperials or give a new lease on life with my fatal attraction to the Y-Wing or Z-95.

I would've preferred the ships to be integrated into the two existing factions. But since they didn't, there is no use to complain about it.

And I agree with both of you. I know wave 2 was released too long ago, when S&V was far from planned. Now, I'm glad that the fans of the Slave-1 will be able to deploy them with new and likely better pilots and options, so I think we will see them in the new faction much more often than in Empire lists.

Imagine Fat Han with Whisper? *shudder*

They'll have to fight us both, because I never liked that one of the most Scummy ships in all of STAR WARS was lopped into the Empire. I knew why they did it, but now that the REAL Boba is coming with his new and also improved friends, it IS all good!

it also wouldn't surprise me to see ships come out that have rebel and scum pilots. in fact I think it would be a great idea. heck mabey somday there will be yt scum pilots.

Nah...I'm glad they've made them their own faction instead of squishing them into the other two. That'd be...weird. Plus, once hired, bounty hunters did their own thing. Boba wasn't really seen flying with a squadron of TIEs (unless I just haven't seen that part of the EU yet)

I like keeping all the factions separate to keep the competitive meta easy to deal with. For casual games though, all rules are gone. Go have fun and see what happens.

This, this, a thousand times this.

I have a firespray but never field it as a firespray for Imperial. It's not an imperial ship.

I like the factions to be different, seperate, and distinct. they have their own flavor, and that is a good thing. I do think that some ships should cross over, but perhaps not the pilots, as they have done with the firespray and Y-wing.

I think some scum YT pilots make sense, though I dont know how this would effect game balance. The ORS for instance, ought to be scum, in my view, or at least have a scum analog.

There are deployment cards in Imperial Assault that let an Imperial squad use a Mercenary unit and a Mercenary squad use a Rebel unit. Not saying there are any plans to apply the same principle to X-Wing, but at the very least FFG has used the idea.

Im glad that scum and villany is its own faction. Like many other have expressed above. I have never felt the Firespray felt right being thrown in the mix with the Empire faction. I didnt really care much for Boba Fetts ability he was stuck with in the Imperial faction.

Now that he is among the other scum and villany and with all the other mercs and bounty hunters he is a much improved ship for the game.

So glad FFG is showing love to the bounty hunters and mercs in Star Wars. Now I can really enjoy the game. In playing a faction that I wanted to play from the start.

Two thoughts on about this thread.

Bounty hunters are for hire. Thus in the star wars universe they would be seen fighting with both the rebels and the empire. The key phrase is "for hire" How about scum ships being available for either faction but at a cost such as an additional 20 percent point cost? This will make it relatively unattractive, but possible for those that really want to do it.

I'm seeing a lack of love for the firespray in an empire list. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the firespray start off as a prisoner transport? If they weren't transporting prisoners for the empire, then who were they doing it for? It seems to me that this is very much an empire ship, if not an old one.

The Empire already has the Bounty Hunter, and it's one of the most cost effective ships in the game

Rebels do not really deal with bounty hunters apparently, probably not enough credits to afford tossing them around inefficiently. Smugglers, though, who can procure essential supplies...

The Firespray was designed as a prisoner transport ship, it could therefore be fielded by any customer wishing to purchase it. I'm painting one of my Firesprays in Imperial gray to be used for just that purpse since I love the Rebel Prisoner crew card.

Except that until the plans were revived after the GCW weren't only 6 ever made?
