Wishlist for FFG

By plush, in X-Wing

For over a year I've been playing the X-wing game, both at a casual en competitive level. I really love the game, allowing me to field my favorite ships from the SW universe. Although FFG has done very well without my advice so far, I would like to share with you and them a wish-list: which for me would make a great game a truly awesome game.

1) Make ordnance more interesting.

When choosing between upgrade cards one has only a limited amount of points to spend. Usually you want those points spend as effectively as possible, and this makes one prefer upgrades that can be used more than once; a cannon, an EPT such as predator, advanced sensors, you name it.

I therefore seldom pick torpedoes or missiles as a first upgrade for a ship. I would wish FFG makes torpedoes or missiles more tempting compared to those other upgrades.

There already have been seen interesting post on how to make ordnance work. Here just my 2 cts.

Given that torpedoes were used against large and huge ships, and were able to negate shields (think about the DS trench run):

Torpedoes: Crits rolled against a large ship can ignore shields

Given that missiles are actually very difficult to evade (you were target locked for Yoda's-sake!)

Missiles: The defender cannot spend focus tokens to modify defense dice

2) Make the phantom more fun (!) to play

Don't get me wrong. I love the concept and ever since the phantom spoiler, I knew I had to have one. That said, having played it and played against it I do think it is overpowered. Whisper/Echo + VI + ACD, is not fun to play and not fun to play against. This makes that combination to be extremely dominant in the competitive meta, and despised casually.

Quick and easy fixes: Ban the ACD OR use the 1 templates when decloaking & you cannot decloak when stressed

3) Give a little more love to the bomber and the defender

Two ships I love but the named pilots of the bomber are not very interesting, and as argued above, missiles seem an ineffective use of points. The defender is overpriced (needs a chardaan refit) and an evasion action via a title (3 agility and no evade option is kinda weird).

4) Let's have rogues!

A cheap X-wing (24/25 points), with an EPT, comparable to the Royal Guard pilot.

5) Y-wing should have a crew slot

The BTL-A4 (used in the attack on the Death Star) had no crewslot and its turret was fixed. However, the normal Y-wing did have a crewslot. As we can see from the S&V expansion, the Y-wing was loved because of its customizability, a title allowing for a crewslot would therefore be logical.

6) Shuttles

See those big guns at the rear of the Lambda? Apparently they can only be used when you fly against the shuttle. This is weird. A small rear firing arc (45 degrees) would be good flavor-wise, and would be worth paying a few extra points for. Furthermore, I'm waiting for a shuttle tydirium title and pilot card, allowing one shuttle to be fielded by the rebel player.

Tell me about your wish-lists!

I have a much simpler one. With the exception of upgrades that are ship specific, make cards more widely available. Especially don't limit generic upgrades to just one ship in one faction.

Point in case Engine Upgrades and Draw their fire. Only having them in the Falcon pack is a pain. One of the most iconic ships would surely be super popular anyway but forcing people to buy it just for those cards makes it crazy hard to get hold of at any where near retail, at least in the UK. I fully expect it to sell out super quick when it comes back instock. Either I have the funds at that exact time or I wait for ages again.

first of all this wishlist sounds like writting a wishlist to santa and wish listing wont help anyone here( no offense )

FFG is doing a VEEEEEEERY GOOD JOB on thier products. Designing a game isnt an easy task and balancing it is way harder. iam 100% sure that the designers of FFG try thier VERY BEST to satisfy all of thier custumers but thats a near impossible task cause the Human itself is an assheole on its own, u cant just satisfy that being called Human it will always be the unsatisfied.

to the Ordenance fix all are yelling out. i dont think that ordenance needs to be fixed the cards are well priced for thier effects they already got a fix as munitions failsafe if they do not hit u keep the upgrade till next attack + in real life ordenances arent a wepon u fire a thousend times. u have limited ammo just think of it in the star wars universe its said that x wings cary 4 proton rockets, how many dice do u have if u use the upgrade card proton rocket ?? answer 4..

in most of my builds i use ordenance its a 50/50 experience sometimes i hit and 1 shot my enemy sometimes i hit and they survive and sometimes i miss terribly and the rockets are gone ( if i didnt upgrade my fighter with the failsafe ) rolling dices will everytime occur in gamblings. so dont say its a bad upgrade have the guts to bring em on the field !!
