Good second EPT for Tycho or Jake?

By SirEmilCrane, in X-Wing

So I've recently discovered the awesomeness that is A wings, having picked up an A wing and a rebel aces pack. I ran them in a game a while ago and they did great but I'm not 100% on some of my choices.

Here's the list I ran

Tycho- PTL, Outmaneuver, A-Wing test Pilot, Chaardan

Jake- Same as Tycho

Outmaneuver was pretty good, but I'm wondering if anyone has a better recommendation? Expert handling looks pretty good for tycho, giving him a barrel roll for stress (oh no...) but I'm concerned about lack of firepower.

Also what's good support for those two? Assume I currently don't have anymore A-wings. The rookies just kinda died without doing much, though that could just be poor flying.

Outmaneuver is good, predator is decent...Really, anything to boost offense (except expose because it blows...)

Jake, PRockets, VI, PTL, test pilot. Focus, boost into range 1, TL with PTL, let rip. Fun times.

VI is always a solid choice. Calculation will also be really good once it is out.

I like outmaneuver on Jake, simply because he can focus, to trigger barrel roll and then PTL to boost and end up with the drop on lower PS opponents. Combined with range one shots and the focus, you should be doing some serious damage.

Daredevil is my new favorite on Tycho. The ability to basically K-Turn (at the cost of a stress... oh noes) before taking another action is pretty **** sweet. Especially considering that he's probably never going to K-Turn naturally.

EDIT: Feel like I should explain Daredevil on Tycho.

You pull a 1 hard turn (90 degrees). You activate daredevil for another hard turn and end facing the opposite direction. Absolutely fantastic for getting the drop on people. To add insult to injury Tycho is the only character in the game to push the limit after using daredevil.

Exert handling of your using outmanuever. That will guarantee you getting out of arc

I have used elusiveness on Tycho since he does mind stress and it can add some toughness to him.

If you're using Expert Handling or Daredevil on Tyco you might as well go all the way and add Experimental Interface. I keep a twenty-sided die in my case specifically to count Tycho's stress. Jake works well with VI and Outmaneuver. Predator is great too. I like PTL on Jake but he doesn't need it, I feel like he ends up being a better dogfighter without it.

He can only use it once though...

I went with PTL, Expert Handling, and Experimental Interface in my last game. A d20 would have been insufficient, with the final tally sitting at 23 stress when my opponent conceded. I think Daredevil might be stronger than Expert Handling but I've yet to play that one.

I like giving my A-Wings (especially Tycho) Expert Handling, for the extra mobility options. Though, I've also considered running a pair of Greenies with PTL + Wingman.

Definitely tack Experimental Interface on Tycho if you've got it.

The other benefit with Daredevil is that it's not a boost action. So you can perform a boost and a Daredevil maneuver both in the same round.

The builds I use most on Jake and Tycho are these

Jake

- PtL

- Test Pilot

- VI

- PR

- SD

Tycho

- PtL

- Test Pilot

- DD

- PR

- EI

Got 34 stress on Tycho in one game. VI is very good to enable Jake to move after high PS high mobility targets like VI-Whisper or Soontir. If you are in a low-PS meta Outmaneuver would be superior albeit more expensive. DD on Tycho is great when you have EI as you can pretty much avoid using Boost, you'll be able to TL-Focus or Focus-Evade and then use DD to close to Range 1 or arc-dodge. Only thing to remember is to point him 90 degrees away from the target with his maneuver. ;)
