Guys, you won't speed up the process by voting out stragglers. In fact, if anything it will slow it down. If we get to the last eight and they're all on 10, it is guaranteed to take 70-79 votes to finish the Ritual. If we wind up with 40 Investigators and they're all on 2, it could potentially end in just 43 votes if nobody heals.

So far we've had 78 votes from an expected 475 required for completion, but the votes have begun to come in faster as more people join in. If we get to around 15 regular voters, which we're not far off, it should take about a month from now. I'll also be starting the other half of the Ritual (the GOOs) when we hit vote 250 in this Ritual, probably Sunday week at the present rate. That'll keep you all busy and happy, I'm sure.

Why do people like Jim better than Gloria? Exact same stats, but Gloria has more money and a markedly more useful ability.

I can only speak for myself, but Jim's just cooler. You're basically talking about the difference between playing Lawrence Fishburne and Angela Lansbury. I find Strange Luck to be more interesting in bad red-yellow places like R'lyeh, Mummies and Wraiths kinda suck, and the Golden Trumpet rocks. I won't spoil Personal Stories, but they count, too.

I like Jim for the same reason I like Patrice. I love the musical characters (which I noticed I share that with Kabegami). Jim could have the worst possible stats in the game, with 1 Focus, but because he's a musician, I like him. What can I say? I like characters based on their actual character and story rather than their actual playability.

I'm slanted towards voting based on a character's bio/personality rather than on stats. After all, as Jedit wrote,

Mm. Forgive me for my game-based approach to the comparison, and yeah, Jim is somewhat cooler than Gloria. But don't insinuate that I'm choosing my people only on stats, or pretend that stats don't factor into your decisions at all. Flavorfully, there's little more Lovecraftian than the struggling horror writer, or the librarian in over her head, or the violinist with strange dreams and haunting music. The overwhelming opinion here doesn't seem to like the last two, at least, because of the stats.

And where are you guys when I'm defending Jim to the greater Arkham Forum community? I could use your help.

Hmm, not sure if you're directing that at me, or in general. But if towards me, I never insinuated anything about your decisions, merely stating why I make mine. Stats may factor into characters that have no appeal to me. But Jim had appeal to me before I even played with him. Patrice was the same, back when all we seen of her was a picture, I was intriqued, because she was a Violinist. As someone who knows music, who studied music for years, characters that are musicians have that appeal to me. I can debate all day long about who is better, Gloria or Jim, and even if all signs point to Gloria, it won't change the fact, that given the choice between them, I will choose Jim, because he is the kind of character I enjoy playing.

As far as the consensus on these boards about Daisy and Patrice, I'm not sure how that affects either yours or my decisions? I have honestly never played as Daisy. A friend drew her once, the same game I coincidently drew Patrice. But I'm not sure he knew how to play with her, as before that night, he had never played her either.

And as far as where I'm at when you're defending Jim. I rarely ever post on these boards. I'm more or a lurker, and not a good one at that, since I don't go around reading every post. Aside from this topic, and a few topics in the Fan Creation section, you won't find posts from me. And even those were just recently. I never frequented these boards much until recently.

Again, i don't know if you were directing that towards me, or me and kabegami, or both of us, or in general. If not at me, then I just rambled for nothing! No offense meant in either this or my previous post though. If you took what I said to mean I was calling you out, then I apologize, but wasn't meant that way.

I didn't mean anything negative directed to you, so I'm sorry if it somehow sounded that way. The internet's dangerous like that, with tone of voice. Your post was right after mine so I felt like I should explain why I hurt Gloria, that's all.

I think the mysticism of old New Orleans can be very Lovecraftian, but then, I roleplayed that a couple decades ago, so Jim is just as flavorful for me.

C'mon, you know a lot of people around here don't care one whit about anything printed on the back of their Investigators. Speed 3? They suck. Fight 3? They suck. Will 3? They suck.

I kinda gave up defending Investigators, because people just have too much variety in their experiences, and the minds around here are often set and unyielding. I dig the hell out of Vincent, but I'm just weary of saying that in earshot of these boards anymore; that doesn't prevent me from having fun playing him. If they don't like Jim (or Mary, or Daisy, or Pete, or Lily, or Patrice...etc...), very little is going to change their minds.

I won't vote once to hurt Jim. How's that?
