international X-Wing

By Funk Fu master, in X-Wing

After watching the german armada unboxing, it got me thinking

Who has played a game of X-wing against an opponent who did not speak the same language at all?

How was the game. are the rules simple and straightforward enough to cross language barriers?

I think this, and armada are simple enough for miniatures games to be conducive to trans-lingual play.

What are peoples experiences. Both at the tournament and casual play level?

I guess english is pretty spread, even among non native speaking barbarians like me (i'm italian)

A few weeks ago there was a thread about a dude using the game to teach english to chinese women, which seems like a pretty **** good sign. (Bit too lazy and busy to backtrack and find it, though, sorry.)

When I was studying abroad in Berlin a few summers back I posted on boardGameGeek asking if there were any local players.

I ended up meeting up with them twice.

I speak pretty good German, and they obviously speak pretty good English, but we kept it in German so I could learn more.

It went pretty well, though a lot of the terms used in the game weren't words I knew, but since I knew all the card text already there wasn't any problems.

Fun time and great learning experience!

Shout out to those Berlin X-Wing players who let me play with them! :D

@roguelieutenant

Nice To hear. However what I am asking is a game where the players could not speak to each other at all due to the language barrier

Hey there,

well actually i did not play against anyone who does not speak english...
I wont say my language since actually my language is german.. ha... how funny is that...
But as a novelty i let my parents bring me an X-Wing and an Advanced expension from germany last time they came to visit, so i can run them at a casual games just to raise a bit interest and fun...
The cards are in german but of course have the same meaning.. still very funny... :)

(another question to you.. were did you see the unboxing.. got a link?)

Others aleady have translated the key points in the forum, no new or unexpected info. Just seeing the production models being handled gave a good sense of the scale of the game.

Now, back to X-Wing before the Forum fun police tell us to go to the off topic or armada forum
