Han + Luke Focus Question

By Darth Emphatic, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Playing a casual game recently where I was running a fat Han with Luke + Predator.

I am attacking Oicunn (4) at range 1. On my first roll I got nothing due to a critical damage card that forced me not to roll dice. On my second attack using Luke Skywalker I rolled 3 hits and a blank, to which I used Predator to reroll the blank, got a focus. My questions is, can I then use Luke's ability to change the focus?

The Luke Skywalker card does not specify "immediately" when saying you can change a focus to a hit, so I believe I was allowed to play Predator at instant speed (for lack for a better phrase) to reroll the 4th die before enacting the remainder of the Luke Skywalker card.

What's the concensus on this? Am I forced to use (or specifically, not use) Luke's focus to hit action before using Predator?

Edit: scratch that, brain fade. StevenO below is correct.

You can use Predator before you are forced to use the second part of Luke's ability.

The first part of Luke's ability allows the opportunity to make a second attack if the first misses.

The second part of Luke's ability is a die modification for that attack which would be applied when any other die modifications are made which means you can choose to use the Predator (or even Han) modification first.

Note that if you shot at someone equipped with a Sensor Jammer (when defending turn [boom] into [eye] and no reroll for that die) they could turn a die into an eye when they get to modify your attack dice and then you could use Luke after that to turn the [eye] back into a [boom] while you used Predator to reroll another die.

Ha, two conflicting answers. Anyone else? :)

NM, just saw the update. Thanks!

I was about to write a super elaborate question because the above explanations were unsatisfactory, but in writing the question, I answered myself. So here is some information to supplement the answer:

- Han performs a primary weapon attack
- ** Predator triggers when attacking**
- Does not activate predator
- Attack misses
- **Luke triggers on a miss **
- Activate Luke (crew):
----- Perform a primary weapon attack
----- **Predator triggers on attack**
----- Activate predator
---------- Reroll 1 dice
---------- End of predator
----- You may change 1 focus result into a hit a hit result
----- End of Luke's ability
So it's not so much that the "order does not matter" so much that Predator can trigger in the middle of Luke's ability.
