A letter to FFG

By GroggyGolem, in X-Wing

Recently a member of the Star Wars LCG community wrote a letter to FFG about various things: their communication with the community, Organized Play, delays, the amount of time between product spoilers and their release.

This person was then able to talk directly to a representative of FFG. While the discussion was more specifically about the LCG, there are some things in there that would be of interest to anyone who is on these forums.

You can find the response here:

I hope they follow the through on the 8-12 week from spoiler to release! My buddies and I always talk about how we see something cool from FFG but it takes 6 months to see it.

Interesting indeed. Would be great if FFG could streamline their processes more and closes the gap between announcement and availability. Especially considering we will go into the 25th week since announcing scum and villains.

How about the mention of the release of one faction huge, then a whole year to get news on the other factions huge. You don't push half a product, namely EPIC play, before it is ready. That was a cash grab.

To be fair, they only announced Scum because it had already gotten leaked. I think the Raider was supposed to be announced at GenCon instead.

No, Scum was supposed to be announced at Gencon. Just because they announced the first Epic ships much, much earlier than they would with a normal product, doesn't mean that other similar products need to announced as early.

And really, unless they get better at predicting delays, expect the announcements to continue as normal. Just don't expect as many spoilers as in the past.

Part of the problem that FFG is experiencing with Wave 6 is the port negotiations. And the problem with wave 2, 3 and Imp Aces was, I think, ramping up production in China. Sounds like they need to stop announcing stuff until after the design phase- and maybe not even until they've started printing.

And then they can just hope the ports come to an agreement.

The first announcement for Scum and Villainy was made in August.

Now, 6 months later, we still don't actually know if we'll see our pirates and bounty hunters before Easter.

Yes we do.

We won't.

For all the great qualities this game has, the lead time between announcement and availability is awful.

It's worth pointing out that here in the UK some suppliers (as far as I know) never got wave 5. If it wasn't for Amazon and a bit of luck I wouldnt have my Decimator.

In the corporate world everything is based off of timetables. Before a product is even started the release date is planned and the timeline is set. Not it is of no surprise that many unforeseen circumstances has causes delays and the announcement preview and launch timeline has been stretched much to the discontent of FFG's customers.

I also like the part where they mentioned more corporate support for organized events. I believe that will greatly increase the community.
