Learning to play death. Looking for pointers

By darklogos, in UFS Deck Building

I made a Morrigan deck a while back and learned some cool tricks with death. My biggest problem was not being able to survive long enough to land the kill. Big damage pump attacks were my weakness. I was wondering if Death has anything in the ways of life gain. Also I was wondering how do you deal with a deck that doesn't focus on gaining lots of momentum. I have living shadow but I only have 2 of the card and on top of that I found most decks I play can heal back easily. So I'm experimenting with splashing in other symbols. This has been interesting. Also any pointers for playing 2 or even 3 symbols would be nice.

Death has a lot of negation, commital, and just ways of saying 'no' to your opponent. Consider the following:

No Memories ...4/4 foundation that is worth it's weight in gold! Universal Enhance negation for the cost of turning the card sideways. The trick to playing this card is knowing WHICH enhance you want to say 'no' to. So, if big damage pumped attacks are your achillies heel, then you wait for your opponent to boost damage and then react with this card here. So what if it's a 15-speed attack, so long as it only touches your for 3 damage, right?

Inhuman Perception ...2/5 foundation that protects No Memories, as it cancels any R your opponent plays. Doesn't need momentum, just a card in hand that you don't mind pitching as well as committing this card.

Manifest Destiny ...1/4 foundation that reads thusly "R Commit: After you play a card that shares at least 2 resource symbols with your character, commit any card that shares at least 1 resource symbol with the card you played."

Death also has some really neat tech on attacks that you should consider:

Ich No Tachi ...3/3 attack that does a TON of stuff: Firstly, as an attack it comes in 3-spd for 3-dmg, making it a decent poke that most opponents will allow to go through (can you say momentum?). It also has a +2 mid block. But that's just the appetizer. Here's the main course of the card: A FREE Enhance: Commit 1 of your opponent's foundations. And the now for the deliciousness of it's uber dessert: STATIC TEXT: If this card blocks an attack with Multiple, all of that card's Multiple copies are discarded!

Shadow Blade ...5/2 Reversal attack that comes in at 4-spd and 5-dmg. It's off-zone and has Stun:2! It's E is also very very nice: "E Destroy 1 foundation: Destroy 1 of your opponent's foundations with difficulty X or less. X equals your destroyed foundation's difficulty." Who says Owlface is gone, right??

Death also has reliable Kill:

Midnight Launcher ...4/3 attack that has to be played after your first play another attack (needs to be in your cardpool). Comes in 3-spd high, and for 7-dmg!! Also, at the cost of losing 2 vitality you prevent your opponent from playing Action cards durning this attacks Enhance Step; gives the super-finger to Rejection!

Knight Breaker ...5/3 attack with an uber Combo E: This attack gets X damage. X equals the printed damage of immediately preceeding attack in your cardpool." Woot!

So, reliable Kill turn looks like this: Ichi + Midnight + KB = GG.!

Hope this helps some...

All Life is Prey.. gives dmg boost to shadowblade?

Cursed Blood: Helps building up your staging area.. Quick.. or else, it just blow away your oponnents card before it hits their staging area

Destiny, they can't mess with your checks and wow.. Hey it can give momentum if you need it

Master of oistenburg. Just laugh at them when they try to heal themselves xD

Actually, Cursed Blood is much better than what you described. As the text is written, you may choose any foundation in their card pool to discard! So, you could let them play 2 or more foundations and then R with CB, and then get to cherry pick which foundation goes bye-bye (provided you flip a non-foundation, of course).

yo screw knight breaker, Go for Darknes Blade it hits hard and commits their board

splash fight or flight off of good and darkness blade looks really scary specially to the likes of chun-li, akuma, and any other 20 life character

The biggest challenge to overcome with Death is that your survival comes with negation (counter based control). There is not a lot of death damage redux, not a lot of life gain, etc.

Despite the fact that Death has some strong attacks, it still takes more time to setup than say - air. You need to have a strategy to survive against an agro deck, whether this means playing the right negation cards early, or simply holding on to the right blocks.

Death also splashes quite well with a number of symbols, consider trying this with a 7hs character and I'm sure you will be happy with the results. (Chaos, fire, evil, void, earth, order, - are the best splashers off the top of my head).
