3x Chewie/Leebo variants - which would you fly?

By Gibarian, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'll be bringing one of these to a Store Championship on the weekend. They're all fairly similar, so I'm just wondering how other people would rate them and which one they'd give the edge to.

Version 1 - Offensive

Chewbacca

> Predator

> Recon Specialist

Leebo

> Predator

> HLC

> Recon Specialist

> Outrider

Both ships have the excellent passive attack dice rerolls from Predator, and should always have a focus for both offense and defense (pending bumps). A defensive focus ain't great on a YT-1300, but it occasionally converts into an evade. I won a SC with this list, but it was the first one of the season, and I expect tougher competition this time around (and colder dice!).

Version 2 - Tanky

Chewbacca

> Predator

> Recon Specialist

> Jan Ors

Leebo

> Determination

> HLC

> Recon Specialist

> Outrider

Chewie benefits from Predator rerolls and usually has an offensive focus plus an evade token. Leebo can receive the evade token if he's the first one to start taking damage, plus Determination can discard some damage. I really miss the Predator rerolls on Leebo's HLC, though... however, if the tankiness can buy him an extra turn or two of staying alive and shooting, that would make up for the lost rerolls.

Version 3 - Bit of Both

Chewbacca

> Predator

> Jan Ors

> Millennium Falcon

Leebo

> Predator

> HLC

> Recon Specialist

> Outrider

Both ships have Predator, and both can receive an evade per round. Chewie will seldom have access to an offensive focus token, though (unless I start the game by focusing him every round, and only switch to evasion once he's partially damaged). I think I'm leaning towards this list, but I'm not sure.

I assume you don´t own C3PO because he rocks on the YT-1300 (I´m probably the first to tell you). My preferred setup for Chewbacca is Predator and C3PO with 52 points left for Leebo (or Dash if you want to combo with him instead).

Of the three lists above I like No.2 the best. Jan Ors enables you to choose which ship converts the second focus token (from recon spec) into an evade token, so you can make the ship that´s taking the most heat very resilient. Determination on Leebo is also pretty neat when it actually saves you some damage. The only downside of dual-recon spec is if you are action blocked when you run into a low-level swarm, but those are not too common these days in my own meta it seems.

My preferred Chewie-Leebo is: Predator/C3PO on Chewie and Predator/ReconSpec/HLC/OutR on Leebo.

This way you get predator rerolls with both ships if you´re blocked by lower PS (which also means you´re often getting 2 dice rerolled). C3PO gives you guaranteed evade without an action and recon spec is great on YT-2400 as you already know. I like the neatness of the combos in your list#2, so I might try that out sometime:)

Chewbo. Love it. Flown it in plenty of different styles and they all have pros and cons.

I vote for list 3, the natural durability of the ships should be enough in most circumstances, I prefer to focus on offense, predator is the best ept for these pilots in my view.

I'd consider using the point for the mf title another way, maybe tac jammer on chewy, there might also be some mileage out of intel agent given Leebo can barrel roll. Even nien just to give chewy a better answer to rebel captive. Mf title is by no means bad, but jan gives you the option to evade on one ship already, so there is a measure of redundancy there.

Good luck and good hunting.

List 3 looks good.

I think I'll be going with #3, wish me luck!

WookieBot all the way. Took 2nd in a Store Championship last weekend.

Chewbacca (42)

Predator (3)

Experimental Interface (3)

Lando Calrissian (3)

Nien Numb (1)

MF Title (1)

Leebo (34)

Determination (1)

HLC (7)

Outrider Title (5)

100 pts.

The toughest thing to deal with is Rebel captive and Mara Jade. Taking the extra stress does limit your options but Chewie not taking crits and the Leebo + Determination (It helps more than you would think) helps you outlast.

BF, that is a great squad. If you have a minute, could you tell us about the game that you lost?

It was against a loaded Decimator and a stacked Carnor Jax. The decimator had rebel captive, mara jade, dauntless title and some others. Carnor had PTL, Shield upgrade and some others. It was a really interesting build. Thinking back there was definitely more I could have done to give myself a better chance to win. My main screw up was splitting the ships up. I sent Chewie after the decimator and in doing that Leebo was left against Carnor. Don't know why I did it, I just did. Also I flew my 2400 of the map. I had a stress when I made my initial move thinking it was a green to clear but it wasn't and I didn't have room to move next turn. I think most of my mistakes were made do to fatigue and poor choices. That was the 8th game I played that day and the most I ever played in one sitting. Excuses aside my opponent deserved to win.

I have a question. Can I use twice Lando's action? First one by normal and second with experimental interface?

Thanks, Boba. I think we have all had a game or two like that.

I play with a lot of high end players, and I have had trouble keeping outriders out of range one without EU. Got any secrets there?

An action can only be used once per round. This includes free actions from cards. You can't use Lando twice in the same round.

WookieBot all the way. Took 2nd in a Store Championship last weekend.

I also ended up with a 2nd place finish, using variant #3 in here. Was undefeated until the final game, where I got chewed up a B-Wing list I'd managed to eke out a win against during the swiss rounds.

Certain things (Phantoms, Soontir, Jake, etc.) will always be troublesome. K-turn early in the game, when you'll have the range 3 die to make up for lost actions, and then try to get them chasing you. Keep Chewbacca in between the enemy and Leebo to obstruct the donut hole, or at least keep him close enough to get good shots on anyone who slips in.

I was thinking, you can do

rookie
rookie
Tarn + R2
Leebo

but 3x + Chewie is too many points... Haha!

I'm currently looking at running leebo (hlc, determination, stealth system, crew dash), backed up by Cracken (VI, stealth) and either 2 bandit z95s with engine upgrades, or 2 prototype a wings with chaaradan refit.

Regards

My Chewie+Leebo build of choice is:

Chewbacca (Predator, Gunner, C-3PO, Millenium Falcon)

Leebo (Determination, HLC, Recon Specialist)

99 points

I know, I know... no Outrider title. But then you still get primary turret weapon shots.

I really like this build, sometimes Outrider can be a drag especially when a lot of pilots move after you. I would personally consider using the letover point to switch Determination for Lone Wolf on Leebo. Lone Wolf is really good with Recon Specialist and while I understand how awesome Leebo/Determination is when it works, it is still a matter of chance and might very well not come into play at all.

WIthout EU, I really try to fly them relatively close together and use Chewie as a blocker when I can. Anticipation on your enemies movements can help to a degree but basically your using your barrel roll to do what you can. Interceptors w/ PTL are a pain as we all know and also A-wings for that. EU is a an excellent modification choice for this build, but the 4 points sometimes is hard to come by, depending on what your trying to accomplish with the build.
