Prediction time - what _will_ we see in Wave 7?

By MacchuWA, in X-Wing

Scum: Skipray Blastboat and the YT-2000

Why? The Skipray Blastboat was one of the featured new craft in Zahn's Thrawn trilogy and has shown up in various video games. The YT-2000 was THE primary craft of X-Wing Alliance, and we've now see Emon Azzameen so the Otana is bound to show up sooner rather than later.

I am kind of curious why people keep forgetting to add at least one of the ESB Bounty Hunter ships. I mean, we have an interview where Alex is very excited for these ships and characters.

Yeah. A lot of people seem to think the Otana will come first, despite the fact the the bounty hunters are canon and were specifically mentioned by a developer as a set of ships he'd like to do.

I mean, Alex isn't the decision-maker for new ships and Christian Petersen has demonstrated some fondness for Star Wars computer games before, but still.

To give an idea of what TIE variants are left for Imps that are actually viable, since most of the variants are purely absurd:

ibtc3Yeb8lu6FW.jpg

(and even then the Avenger is kind of iffy)

i'm not sure i'd count out the tie electronic warfare. the imperials don't have a true support ship like scum and rebels have in the form of the Hwk

I'm not sure FFG thinks they /need/ a support ship of that type, the EW is ugly, and there are actually other options depending on whether they do the Assault Gunboat with beams.

Vorpal Sword? The bounty hunters - Boba Fett, IG-88, Bossk, Dengar, 4-LOM, Zuckuss, Greedo, etc. - are indeed all canon elements of the Star Wars saga.

However, the bounty hunters' ships - with the exception of the Slave I - are NOT.

That is why many (most?) of us believe the Otana or YT-2000 should appear before, say, the massive Hound's Tooth or that Dengar-driven horseshoe-shaped thing.

And yet, I have some models of the BH ships, not the Otana. The ships have been featured in a lot more things than the Otana and all the other random ships people seem to place above the BH ships. Add in that they bring in the option of VERY popular characters, I just can't see them not being a bit higher priority than a lot of the other ships people are proposing for scum (not to mention, that Otana seems destined for Rebels). I don't think we will get all of the rest of them at once, but I don't foresee them leaving them out of a wave completely.

And the Hound's Tooth is that massive. They recently shrunk it down.

I didn't mean to imply that the bounty hunters' ships are canon. But, as you say, the hunters themselves are canon, while the Azzameen family (with an asterisk for Emon, since he's now been republished by a licensee) aren't.

(shrug)

I don't have a dog in this fight, really. I think Otana is potentially a valuable addition to Scum, and would be excited to see it; I just don't understand the thought process that says it is likely to appear ASAP.

Hound's Tooth is actually canon, due to it's Clone Wars appearance.

The Houndstooth was in The Clone Wars, and it's not massive, it's a few meters longer than the Decimator now. I think it'l be in Wave 7 as S&V's primary turret ship, and it may contain one of the ordnance fixes that were hinted of.

Alex did seem to be excited about Zuckuss, though...

Can someone post links or images of the other bounty hunter ships? The Hound's Tooth is the only remaining one I'm familiar with. I honestly didn't even know the names of any of the other bounty hunters that we haven't seen in the game yet.

Oh, okay... I didn't remember seeing the Hound's Tooth in "Clone Wars." I thought Bossk was part of Aurra Sing's crew that was using Boba Fett's Slave I as transport. *shrug*

And as for scale? I think some other folks here must have gotten me confused. Or I'm simply confused. Ha. Who knows?

But now that I know the Hound's Tooth is canon? And it's not that massive? Yeah, it's got a good chance of being in the next wave for sure... I mean, it did appear in "Shadows of the Empire" and (I believe) "Dark Empire."

Basically, I'm pretty sure it's one of those ships that never really had an official scale--canon and near-canon descriptions varied pretty widely. My guess is that when it was written into Clone Wars, the modelers discovered that fact (the way FFG's modelers did with the HWK), and either went looking for the "right" answer or decided on one that fit their narrative needs and didn't conflict too badly with contexts and situations the ship had been in.

And now, presto! We have a single canon description for its length.

Alex did seem to be excited about Zuckuss, though...

He's not the only one. There is a reason my forum title is The Uncanny One.

I desperately want to see the R-41. I've loved that ship since I saw it in TIE Fighter 20 years ago.

I believe the Clone Wars version shaved a good 15m off the original size. It is currently slightly longer than the Decimator, but obviously much skinnier.

The other bounty hunters from Empire Strikes Back are:

Zuckuss (Gand, insectoid, owns the Mist Hunter, a G1-A starfighter)

4-LOM (Droid, and Zuckuss' partner)

Dengar (Human, wears a turban/hoodie and brown armor, owns Punishing One, a modified Jumpmaster 5000 scout ship)

In the Clone Wars, young Boba ran with Bossk and Dengar.

I think there's a few in the ANH cantina scene who received stories in the old EU, but I don't know anything about them.

My prediction is that wave 7 will arrive later than expected, sell out within 2 weeks, and will take 6 months to get reprinted and back on the shelves

Mist Hunter is a pretty dinky little ship, surprisingly. It's a large starfighter. It would make for a good choice, as they could do Zuckuss and 4Lom as named pilots, and 2 generics or add one more named ship.

Skipray Blastboat as an Imperial/Scum double ship. Scum Mara Jade pilot, maybe Talon Karrde as well. Would give the Empire a ship with a turret slot

R-41 Starchaser as a Rebel fighter, a cheap ship with a moderate dial and a cannon slot.

Maybe the Imperial Gunboat with a Beam Weapon system.

4-LOM (Droid, and Zuckuss' partner)

Dengar (Human, wears a turban/hoodie and brown armor, owns Punishing One, a modified Jumpmaster 5000 scout ship)

Those ships are... surprisingly okay. There is a certain late 70s/early 80s aesthetic to a lot of Star Wars (for obvious reasons) that's easy to take for granted because of how timeless the iconic stuff has become, but that aesthetic is really important when trying to design new ships or trying to get other things to feel right alongside everything else. I really think these two ships (along with the Hound's Tooth), will give the Scum faction its own feel without being too out of place.

The question is, which one(s) will be prioritized for the next wave?

I think the Hound's Tooth is the best guess for next. It will give the Scum faction a great large ship, it's the ship of who is (in my experience at least) the next most popular bounty hunter, and I guess it's been made "canon." Will it be the only one though?

I thought we would see the gunboat in wave 7 but after watching the recent interview with Alex Davy I'm not so sure anymore. During the interview he mentions the skipray, assault gunboat, H-wing and K-wings as ships they could do but id have thought he wouldn't mention any of the ships he's worked on in waves 7 and 8 while under NDA?.

We may end up just seeing another scum only wave of two ships.

The fact that the K-wing is overdesigned is what makes it cool. It's still got that Koensayr-styling, but in a gritty, 80s way that tells you it's going to drop a Macross Missile Massacre on your face.

There's also already some Black Fleet Crisis references in the card art (several of the E-wing and Defender cards feature an Endurance-class Republic fleet carrier) and Etahn was the commander of the Fifth Battlegroup, which had a large complement of the Ks. Etahn's card art also has him shooting at Yevethan fighter craft (no we're not getting Yevetha ships).

You heard it here first: wave 7 will include the Yevethan D-type as the lead ship in a new faction called "Wait, Who?"

If that were the case you would be able to infer the ships coming soon from any ship not spoken about,

"could" isn't a commitment or revelation of anything it's just the same thing as acknowledging that the fighters exist in the lore. That sort of external IP stuff can't really be in an NDA, so I wouldn't go down the road of gettng yourself tangled up based on that interview.

NDA's are weird things, My last NDA was an NDA agreeing not to disclose the subject of a prior NDA. things spiral out of control from there.

If the gun boat is coming he'd still not be able to tell you even hinting could get him in hot water.

They know there's demand and we know they are fans of the pc games it'll turn up sooner or later.
