Prediction time - what _will_ we see in Wave 7?

By MacchuWA, in X-Wing

So we may be nearing the end of X-wing... Nothing new to add no next waves, time to detox from the addiction.

Sorry, but according to the interview with Alex Davy at a Fargo store championship last weekend, they're wrapping up work on Wave 8 right now. So at least FFG thinks there are a minimum of two waves' worth left.

Why kill the cash cow when there is still plenty of milk...

Besides...with the raider coming out we have only BEGUN to explore epic!

Agreed, but I don't think we'll see a huge ship as part of a wave.

- Wave 5 was all large

- Wave 6 was scum only

- There will be extra attention to ´the other neglected ship of wave 1´; my guess is the TIE fighter

- ´If you like bombs and ordnance you will like wave 7´

- ´The X-wing needs a boost, but hasn´t gotten it yet´ (edd. in wave 7)

Based on these:

- Rebels: A slightly downsized K-wing to put it on a small base

- Imperial: Either a Bomber re-paint or a TIE Aggressor

- Imperial: TIE fighter repaint

- Scum: a small-based medium fighter (as in: X-wing / TIE Advanced bracket). Dunelizard / Kiraxz Assault Fighter / Preybird / Rihkxyrk Assault Fighter (though the later might be more apt to fill the B-wing role?)

Seems like every time a wave has come out since 3, people have said "well it's the end."

I am totally predicting the StarSpeeder 1000 for Wave 7!

"With Star Tours you will be safe and mostly assured that you're in the fastest vehicle this side of the Outer Rim... the all-new Starspeeder 1000!"C-3PO

The StarSpeeder 1000 was a model of transport starship once operated by the interstellar spaceline Star Tours and the five other travel agencies that made up the Galactic Tourist Bureau. They could accommodate forty seated passengers and required a crew of only three to operate effectively. While all StarSpeeder 1000s bore the Star Tours logo, the color and markings of an individual craft varied according to its destination. The StarSpeeder 1000s were the predecessors of the mostly identical StarSpeeder 3000 that were seen shortly after the Battle of Endor.

I did hear that there was some Assault Gunboat art in one of the recent RPG books...

At this point, who knows. I just want at least one more of the BH ships.

what i'd like to see is no new wave, instead FFG fixing the ships we already own.

Don't get this at all surely it's better they get what you've already payed for working than to leave it gathering dust?

Do we think there will even be any new ships in Wave 7? As we've already discussed, they are really starting to scrape the Barrel with all factions, especially the Rebels, and there aren't really enough Niches left for any new ships (B-wing and Y-wing cover both ends of the spectrum for Rebels, any other ships are going to be a bit needless).

I'm sure there are a few more EU ships left for the Empire, as they only really have the slow, Y-Wing-esque bomber (the Tie Bomber), but not the faster, more maneuverable B-wing one. But still, at some point, the game is going to reach critical mass with the types of ships there are. For the Rebels, I think we are already there.

What comes next? Aces packs? or what?

I think the bomber is going to get a boost, be it in wave 7 or as an aces pack. As an addition to the release perhaps there will be a tie shuttle variant? With the rise of the crew card in recent waves I feel the Imperials need a viable small bass crew carrier that is cost effective (something cheaper and 'straighter' than the Phantom). As previously mentioned this might even be a combo release with a Ywing as this is now also a bomber and the EU has crewed Ywings.

Empire and S&V both have plenty of ships it's rebels that are fast running out of ships.

Y'know what the Rebels/Republic aren't running out of though? Named pilots... for the X-wing, the star of the show.

Should just stop worrying about generic X-wings and pump out more named pilots for it. Plus K-wing/Otana/Pulsar Skate, then done.

This game could have a long and happy life releasing repaints and new supporting cards for all the main (movie) ships.

I'm telling ya, its the ship from the Star Tours ride at Disney.

For **** sake people, take the time to enjoy the set that was released this week.

No need to be a **** about it. Maybe you can't multitask, but I'm fully capable of enjoying new ships while also enjoying the process of speculating about the future and imagining fun future ships.

Can't do that if you don't have it yet...

S&V needs to catch up in both ship models (2) and variants (3/4).

Both Kihraxz (Vaksai) and Rihkxyrk come to mind as possible new ships. The Y-Wing, HWK and M3-A could be released in some kind of MW2 pack to get these a new Black Sun paintjob.

I would like to keep S&V very close to the Black Sun plus Bounty Hunters.

In wave 8 S&V and the Rebels should get a third big ship and the Empire will get a small one.

To give an idea of what TIE variants are left for Imps that are actually viable, since most of the variants are purely absurd:

(and even then the Avenger is kind of iffy)

i'm not sure i'd count out the tie electronic warfare. the imperials don't have a true support ship like scum and rebels have in the form of the Hwk

*edit i suppose there is the lambda. but it's gimped once the enemies fly behind it

I'm not sure FFG thinks they /need/ a support ship of that type, the EW is ugly, and there are actually other options depending on whether they do the Assault Gunboat with beams.

Why not add my two cents?

Rebels: R-41 Starchaser

Why? It was featured in the games TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, and Force Unleashed II so the ship is fairly well-known. Plus, do you really think FFG is going to go with the utterly obscure T-, H-, and K-Wings? C'mon now...

Imperials: Assault Gunboat

Why? It was prominently featured in X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and X-Wing Alliance. It's well-recognized by most Star Wars gamers and has a distinct look.

Scum: Skipray Blastboat and the YT-2000

Why? The Skipray Blastboat was one of the featured new craft in Zahn's Thrawn trilogy and has shown up in various video games. The YT-2000 was THE primary craft of X-Wing Alliance, and we've now see Emon Azzameen so the Otana is bound to show up sooner rather than later.

Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a Rebel 'Bomber Aces' pack with a pair of Y-Wings that includes more pilots - with Elite Talents! - astromechs, bomb options (from S&V), etc.

As for an Imperial equivalent? Well, why not an Imperial 'Bomber Aces' pack with a pair of TIE Bombers and additional bomb options?

Been saying the starchaser is a must for rebels for ages, similar to z-95 in hit points 2 attack primary but with a cannon slot.

I am kind of curious why people keep forgetting to add at least one of the ESB Bounty Hunter ships. I mean, we have an interview where Alex is very excited for these ships and characters.
