I just noticed they are in stock for sale here. Cool, and fast.
X-wing Playmats now available
Wait, WHAT?!
The article mentions in-house manufacturing, which probably means they're made right here in the U.S. No need to make announcements 8 weeks in advance if they're not taking the slow boat from China.
Pics, or it didn't happen...
The product page for both still says not yet available.
Wait, WHAT?!
That was exactly what I thought when I read it. In fact I read it three more times and looked here for a thread, then went back and read it again. Finally I came to the conclusion that I had read it correctly. Really looking forward to getting one of these but not sure if I can adjust to only a few days between look at the new item and oh and by the way you can order new item now.

Look on the main page for the article, says now available and you can order them through the shop page here. I haven't checked any other sources yet
The store does, in fact, say in stock and allow you to put them in the card and check out.

Right you are. Maybe it works like a preorder. Or maybe they can just print them on demand now that they're announced.
What’s more, both playmats are legal in casual level events, while the Starfield Playmat is legal in all X-Wing Organized Play events, bringing the Star Wars setting to your tournament matches... just noticed this in case anyone was looking at the deathstar map
Bring on Bespin!
Seriously. I want to dogfight over the city in the clouds...
Sure enough, you can get right to the payment (where I stopped). It's not even listed anywhere else, so that's interesting. Shipping is also $16 for me, so $56 puts it in the 'way to expensive' range for me.
Ok, most of the competing products I have seen are $55-$65 for a 3x3 mat. That these are only $40 actually has me concerned that the quality is going to be poor.
Orderd... we shall see
A. When it ships
B. If the quality is any good.

That's a very interesting distinction.

where did you see this?
It's in the announcement article.
My FLGS tried to order these yesterday and was very disappointed to find out that his cost is $36 (and retail $40) so he will not be carrying them. If this is truly the case (and I have no reason to doubt his word) then not many retailers are going to bother carrying them and most people will need to order direct from FFG. Not a huge thing, but I do prefer to support my local store as FFG doesn't provide me with a place to play.
Jim
they are late to the game on this one, at my local stores most of the serious players already have purchased mats from other companies
