Scum Crossover Question

By Lordfiredeath, in X-Wing

I am curious as to how existing Rebel and Imperial ships will cross into Scum fleets. Of course Most Wanted has everything for our conversions but what about dials for Z's and Y's that we already own? I'm assuming Most Wanted only has dials for the ships included, plus one for the HWK and Firespray, but we can't use preexisting dials for all those extra Zs and Ys.

Am I missing something regarding this? It seems like Most Wanted will have to include a ton of cardboard to make this work.

On a side topic, I really wish IG-88 (or any Bounty Hunter) was able to be used by the Empire too. They are out for the highest bid after all.

Thank a ton for your opinions everyone.

Yes. there will be a lot of cardboard (6 dials I think 10 bases). There is a reason why it's a bigger package.

If I recall correctly, Most Wanted has two Scum Y-wing dials, two Scum Headhunter dials, a Scum Firespray dial, and a Scum HWK dial. It doesn't actually cover that much, but it is already a ton of cardboard.

In private games I doubt anyone will object as long as you have the right dial for your ship (and ditto pilot cards, etc.); at local tournaments TOs may object if you don't have a dial that matches both your ship and your faction; at sanctioned tournaments TOs are likely to object if you don't have the right dials.

Dials likely won't be an issue with most TOs, but consider that you will still need the correct base tile for your pilot, and if there were two new ships in the box, there would be no question what dial you needed. It's no different than any other expansion, you use the dial out of the box.

It'd be just splendid if this version of this thread didn't turn into a dumpster fire, just for a nice change of pace.

I think lots of folks are gonna be picking up two sets of it (just like we did with the core box), and lots of other folks will feed off of a thriving second-hand/trade market, to get just the right amounts of dials and bases and stuff.

I recall reading that you cannot use Rebel and Imperial dials for Scum and Villainy ships (and vice versa) in FFG tournaments. I can find references to that but not official word from FFG so take it with a grain of salt. As far as I know there isn't any difference between the maneuver dials for Scum, Rebel and Imperial so I don't know why that rule is in place.

As Vorpal has already said, casual games and local tournaments probably won't care which dial you use as long as it is correct for the ship.

So far the only word we have had on this is an email from Frank (the rules developer at FFG) saying that the dials will not be cross faction legal in official FFG events.

The preview article for Most wanted HAS confirmed that the actual maneuvers on the dials are identical though.

to reiterate what forgotten lore said above

1. the manuvers on the dials are identical

2. it is not legal at offical FFG events to use cross faction dials, but you may use your rebel Y-wing model with a scum dial and the correct scum carboard pilot tile.

Ther is no reasonable discernable reason for this, and I and others have nerd-raged about it before. but there is your answer anyway. On the plus side, you can use existing y-wing and z-95 models with scum, so you "gain" an extra Y-wing and Z-95 with each most wanted set, assuming you already have those models for rebels.

I, and many others i am sure, intend to use the dials cross faction anyway, as they are for all practical purposes, the same.

This is the list of every thing included in the Most Wanted pack. Its going to get a lot more interesting.

One Y-wing miniature with an alternative, Scum-themed paint scheme

Two Z-95 Headhunter miniatures with Black Sun paint schemes

Four Scum faction Firespray-31 ship cards

Four Scum faction HWK-290 ship cards

Six Scum faction Y-wing ship cards

Six Scum faction Z-95 Headhunter ship cards

Nineteen upgrade cards

Maneuver dials and tokens for your Scum Firespray-31, HWK-290, Y-wing, and Z-95 Headhunters"

At the bottom of that page they give the number of maneuver dials provided:

Firespray (x1), the HWK-290 (x1), the Z-95 (x2) and the Y-wing (x2)

So you won't have spare z-95 dials from that set, but again, only matters with tournaments that enforce the no mixed dials rule.

It seems you can bring six things into Scum via Most Wanted. Two small bases (and pegs) along with one Y-Wing and HWK from the Rebels and one large base and a Firespray for the Empire. Other than that you could throw away everything in those boxes except the upgrade cards if you were just going to be playing Scum.

The general consensus goes for official matches (tournaments, league, Gen Con) The models must have faction and ship matching the base tile, pilot card and maneuver dial to be legal.

As I said for casual (such as playing with friends in your own home) the faction dial shouldn't matter much because as of now they have the same move sets across the factions, but tiles and cards should match sense the stats of the pilots do differ across the factions.

As for the model you can use what ever model for your squadron as long as the ship class matches the rest of the set (such as using a S&V painted Y-wing model in a rebel squadron) as long as it has the faction matching pilot card, ship tile and if in an official match maneuver dial.

The Most Wanted pack comes with 2 Z-95 Headhunter models and 1 Y-wing model.

It has enough game components for 2 Z-95 Headhunters, 2 Y-wings, 1 HWK-290, and 1 Firespray-31 if you have a Y-wing expansion pack, a HWK-290 expansion pack, and a Slave-1 expansion pack.

No arguments here. It's just that any Rebel Z-95s you may have owned are useless (except as an alternative paint scheme) in Scum just like Scum Z-95s are useless to Rebels. The Scum Y-Wing is also completely useless to the Rebels.

When it comes to fulfilling Most Wanted's needs you only the need the ship and plastic base for a few ships as everything else is just junk.
