Desperate Allies

Nemoidians are an odd choice for sure, the most screentime they get is in Episode 1 in which they're ultimately just pawns in the larger game Palpatine is playing behind the scenes. Wonder if they get setbacks to resisting deception checks

But they were deceived by Sith who could use the force to influence them?

Wow, people are quick to judge an entire race on the actions of a few...

I'm guessing that the reason Neimoidians are in the book is that they, like the Caamasi and Gossam, are a species who rely on words rather than brute force. In other words, archetypal Diplomats.

Fair point, how often did we see a Neimodian actually fire a weapon that they were holding?

I've seen Germans with better senses of humor, it's just a joke

I guess you must be German then, since I am pretty sure that everyone else got the fact that it was my remark that was "just a joke".

I remember that one of Jaina Solo's wingmates during the Vong war was Neimodian. I don't know if she ever fought on the ground though. I'm pretty sure that none of the Neimodian naval officers we see in the Clone Wars era were shown in personal combat. I know there was a Neimodian Trade Federation and CIS naval captain who became an Alliance privateer after the Alliance refused to let him join their navy but again I don't know if he ever fought in character scale combat.

replace that with people and it very much applies to the real world.

Ed: Ugh, nevermind me, late to the party as usual.

The AoR character I generated is a Diplomat, so I'm a little excited. I can't say that I'm exactly thrilled with all the species. I'm not quite sure how the Neimoidians fit into the Rebellion. Although it would be interesting to see one rebel PC say, "You know, you guys kind of started this whole things as pawns for the Sith...." and the Neimoidian in his most stereotypical voice replies, "I don' know-ah whatah you ahhh talking about-ah! I am from Duros."

But the Sepretists lost, so they are perfect fit for being Rebels since they are still trying to take down "The Man."

The problem is that the EU had the Alliance make any Separatist holdouts or former Separatists publicly disavow the Separatist movement as a requirement to join the Alliance, which I think is unfair since there is no sign of them making former Imperials or Imperial defectors publicly condemn the Empire before signing on..

IMO most of the Separatists that are still fighting when the Alliance forms are going to be the true believers in the Separatist cause so they aren't going to be very willing to meet the requirement to publicly state that the cause was wrong so not many former Separatists joined the Alliance though at least one former CIS captain who wasn't allowed to join the Alliance navy became a well known rebel privateer.as I mentioned earlier.

And what's really stupid about the whole thing is the New Republic had no problem with planets being independent and neutral which is what most of the Separatist true believers wanted. It was mostly, if not exclusively, the Separatists that were using the cause as an excuse to seize power or money IMO who wanted to conquer the Republic rather then just leave it not those motivated by belief in the cause.

Love that show...

As random as this sounds, the 'resplendent robes' reference in the announcement made me the most interested. Am excited to expand wardrobe options for characters to more than just laminate ^_^ Also think the Rebel bases info will be very helpful.

I like the appearance of the Neimoidians as well. Blox Hatha (the Separatist turned Rebel Privateer RogueCorona mentioned) sounds like a great NPC Rival/Nemesis to have characters rub shoulders with btw.

True. But the formal name of the Rebels is The Alliance to Restore the Republic. So its not to hard to understand that they might want people who join up with them to promise not to try to overthrow the Republic or its ideals. They might be ok with independent systems or neutrals as allies or friends but people who are specificly becoming a part of their organisation should be onboard with their ideals. They might also not require former Imperials to publicly and formally condemn the Empire but joining the rebel alliance is in itself an act that condemns the practice of the empire and says that they want to resist it.

By the same logic those Separatists that wanted to overthrow the Republic probably wouldn't ant to join the Alliance. Those Separatists who were ok with the Republic surviving as long as it was willing to respect the wishes of those who no longer wished to be part of it might though.
