Maneuver Tool - Article
I think it is nice that the option to have a 2nd maneuver tool will be available without needing to purchase a 2nd base set.
But one thing in this article put a pit in my stomach.. "Look for the Star Wars: Armada Maneuver Tool accessory pack to arrive at retailers in the second quarter of 2015"
Now I know this is a brand new pack etc, so it coming out later than the core wouldn't be a weird. But, I wouldn't be surprised if this is as good an indicator as any that the game will slip into 2nd quarter. Thank you Chinese New Year!
...this is good, I guess...but can we have the game this year? Or is this now a GenCon 2015 release?
Sigh. I guess May looks more likely trhan March at this point. Sad times.
yea, id rather have a "ITS OUT NOW!" update.
im also curious about the wear of the plastic joint of this part. All plastic snap in joints i have or had got worn wiggly as far as i remember. if you i.e. do a speed 4 movement and the first joint wiggles for lets say +-10° from center than you end up beeing way of in the final position.
actualy ~0.5 "range" off ( or +- 0.5 range off which gives you quite some possibilities ... ) if my google request is right. cool that you can do that with googles plain search btw.
they should have included metal joints for this imo as its crucial gameplay wise that this measurement tool is "exact".
Edited by madtulipYeah, I'm thinking this'll be handy for replacing the knackered ones as well.

I don't see your logic, this was just announced, it will obviously release much later than the core sets + wave one.
Still plan on a Q1 release for Armada.

This may encourage the shared use of maneuver tool during competitive matches.

As I said in my post I agree that this is a later release and should come out after the core set. But just being pessimistic.
As a follow-up to this I just checked the "Upcoming" page and this pack is only in the "In Development" stage. So they would seem to support what you are saying.

You see, now this is a great point. I was thinking about people trying to get the "one up" and modifying their own tools to make them more effective in some way or easier to be manipulated. If there is a way to cheat I am sure that someone will find it.
I was at a conquest tournament here recently and was doing pretty well. I undermine my game instead of someone cheating they simply stole my entire deck. People are low down and will do anything to get an advantage.
Any ideas on how to validate this tool or standardize its use? Sharing one works but at the same time, are we talking about a wear and discard product here?

Now we just need a second damage deck for when we have mates round who don't have their own
I think it's more about being able to get a second set without having to purchase a second core set. I also like the option of being able to make a shorter maneuver tool. Given that FFG specifically called that out, I would hazard a guess that modified maneuver tools will probably be OK in tournaments.
Also I agree it's probably an indication that it's a part that will "wear" and need eventual replacement.
One thing that will be interesting is with FFG jumping on the game mat bandwagon and now the tool, will we see a range of acrylic rulers and counters coming too?
Soooooo now all we need is a separate second damage deck and there really no reason to buy a second starter

Besides what you get per dollar. I honestly have no idea of expected price for everything, but when would the cost of an additional measuring tool, extra dice and additional damage deck be offset by what a little more money would get you?
Although they don't come with different upgrades, there are 3 ship models in the core.
Well, it is interesting that the news posts seems to be coming close together... Maybe they are building up to release... (2 new news articles in as many weeks)
Edit, wow my iPhone sucks at spelling.
Edited by megamenThe core set's discount is really in the squadrons that come with it. Unless you are providing all the stuff for faction mirror matches I very much doubt you'll ever use 14-18 Tie squadrons or 10-14 X-wing squadrons at once (2 cores, 1-3 squadron boxes).
I suspect there will be 3rd party versions of this product pretty quickly AND the 3rd party market will include versions that are much sturdier (metal parts, or a much sturdier plastic). Heck I wouldn't be surprised if some enterprising individual makes a version of this tool that looks different but has the same end effect with less wear on the parts.
