[Fractalsponge] instead of the VT...?

" the YT-2400 is just an upgraded YT-1300 after all.

Which is why the 2400 and dash have always been pretty lame.

Looks good but anyone else but me annoyed at all the guns it has? There's a single shot turret(most likely an ion), two doubles, a quad and likely some missile launchers somewhere. It's not an ork ship(not nearly enuf dakka anyway) its a large starfighter.

Norsehound, I'm curious, though; how does this sit with your oft-repeated disdain for the "flying pancake"?

In that way this isn't much of an improvement over the decimator isn't it? All of them are flying saucers. The Empire at least has other designs to pick from for their large craft but the rebels? All CEC products, which are flat and circular.

I'm curious what makes the Decimator with it's R2 head more "Empire" than this one.

I think a lot of it comes down to geometry. The large Rebel ships a very circular. Empire is more jagged and menacing. The way the back end of this thing rounds out into that semi-hexagon thing gives it that roundish feel, while the Decimator ended flat. It was a square with some trapezoids attached.

Beyond that, we also have the escape pods in a Falcon-esque position/style, and the dorsal gun may as well be an exact clone. Sure, the Decimator had a dorsal turret, but it was farther back instead of dead-center a-la 1300. Plus, Deci's turret is barely even there...

The decimator more strongly evokes the classic, empire wedge shape without being just a mini SD.

The upper dome and front window, which I think look great but which some seem to hate, evokes both the classic TIE cockpit and the window in the throne room in in Jedi.

This looks like someone took the falcon and just flattened some of the curves to try and disguise the fact that it was based on the falcon, but because it is so obviously based on the falcon all it does is come across like, as has been said, an evil-ised falcon. It looks like what bearded Han Solo would fly in the mirror universe version of SW. (which, come to think of it, would actually be a pretty cool story)

Looks too much like a Falcon.

All CEC products, which are flat and circular.

Huh... I imagine him more with a twirling moustache than a beard.... and a monocle...

Thats a nice picture.

The Design is so much better with those lights ...

I believe it's the Sundered Heart out of RotS.

So when do we get X-Wings with solar paneling? There isn't nearly enough bleeding between the two factions yet.

If it were my choice we'd have the Delta-class Escort shuttle instead of the Decimator. Before anyone says "it's an upgraded Lambda!" the YT-2400 is just an upgraded YT-1300 after all.

I just think between the results of "Make an Evil Falcon", Fractal's spontaneous design looks much more aesthetically pleasing than the Galaxies result.

Imps should have the delta class rather than firespray (but scum probably wasn't planned at the time...). Still, unlike the above saucer the Deci is Canon. I've always liked it.

There are docking collars similar to that on the Arquitens-class cruisers, and its front fork, as seen in Rebels, are used for docking. Large Star Destroyer variants such as the Gladiator class and the carrier have their shuttle bay openings there as well. The Arquitens and Raider also have stubby bridge towers, which Fractalsponge's design admittedly needs (it also needs to ditch those lil fins) I don't like the Deci's Artoo hat (or its understated turrets) either; makes it look like a pleasure craft instead of a warship.

This is an awesome technical job, but I do think it is too reminiscent of the falcon for its own good. The mandibles, the disc shape, and the corridor running across the middle make the ship just a little too much like the 1300 for my taste. Awesome awesome work though.

For those saying it look too much like Falcon; it is BASED on the Falcon. The artist said so; he was doing a concept "What if the Millenium Falcon was an imperial design?"

Why you link that and not this Delta-class Escort shuttle?

I don't care much for the design of this ship, technically it is great, but esthetically it doesn't scream Empire.

I love this ship. Alexhurlbut is correct (it may still be too Falcon-ish for one's tastes, but that is because it was the artist's intention).

Decifalcon?

No, Decimator is ace.

I'm not a huge fan of the Decimator, but that thing is definitely too much like the Falcon to make it a better alternative.

You all do know that this thread is more than 2 years old, right?

Decimator was designed to be much like an imperial Falcon

Not a fan. Imperial ships are generally compact, with overall simple geometry. This thing feels like it's trying too hard and just doesn't come off as authentic Star Wars to me.

Not a real fan of this thing. Too many guns in my opinion, it's just going overboard and doesn't really fit the Star Wars aesthetic. The flap-wings also seem a tad out of place. So I agree that it just looks like an "evil Falcon" right off of Corellian Engineering's production line. Not nearly enough distinctiveness here. I'm not a huge fan of the Decimator, and wish it had bigger engines and I could do without the nose-pod window, but I think I still like it more than this piece.

Honestly, Ever since I saw the Old Republic Sith Fury I wish FFG would release one for x-wing. Even just as an optional model to use in place of the VT.....

I think the Sith Fury fits better with the Empire then the VT did.

Just make the black paneling more like the solar panels or heat dispertion panels on Tie Fighters and you got yourself a really mean looking imperial command ship for fighter wings.

Also, I can easily see Darth Vader and Emperor Palp willing to fly abord this ship without question. The VT....not so much.
