can it still work?

By coolfishboy, in X-Wing

So I enjoy flying a 8 bandit swarm, but does it hold up vs the meta?

Yes vs turrets, but I a! Struggling vs phantoms etc

Would something like this work?

6 bandits

Cracken, vi, homing missile

But the problem is still keeping phantoms in arc, any tweaks you can think of?

MegaSilver just won a tournament with this. It's also being used by someone in the Team Covenant Aces league. It's very, very strong. I don't know if he beat any Phantoms, but I've seen plenty of comments on these forums that blocking is a good strategy.

Bingo!

I beat two Phantom/Tie Swarms, one with Sigma and Echo. In the Echo build, I got lucky and he misjudged a decloak and landed on an asteroid and took a hit. I had 4 Bandits in a perfect spot to shoot Echo (they were going to take out a 1-life Tie instead), and finished her off.

Surprisingly the hardest match was the Sigma/Tie Swarm list, because all his guys were PS3 and he had init, so they all shot before me. Tarn started opposite of my side to provide a distraction, which did good since one Tie Fighter went after him. In the end 4 of the Bandits would die, but a sweet K-turn by Tarn and two R1 Bandits managed to take out the Sigma in the second to last round, and helped to secure my victory.

Okay awesome :D

How about a little twist then?

4 bandits

Cracken, vi

Tarn,r7

Still leaves some more points to spend

Thoughts?

You really want numbers against your opponent. But I'm a swarm player so that's my style. What are you trying to achieve with Cracken? If it's a cheap way to get PS bid against a Phantom, it could work, but you won't have quite enough firepower to get the damage done before he recloaks. It's best IMO to just outnumber the Phantom and force/trick him to move in a bad spot, and focus fire, even if that happens mid to late game.

I think of these as a lot like pawns in chess. Build an ArC wall or layer your ships, try to stay back to keep your arcs wide, and you can deal with a phantom, though it works better with Xwings due to 3 dice vs 2 against all the greens, and R3-A2 is pure gold on a phantom.

In a zswarm, I'd consider some ion ordnance as well, since flechettes are not an option.

Fair enough

I had cracken to shot before phantoms and also hand any TL's out

What about

Hobbie, r3-a2

Tarn, r7

4 bandits?

Or is it just better to have the 6 bandits with tarn?

Another route I had considered was Wes w/VI, R3-A2, Engine Upgrade with 5 Zs, if you want to go the stress roue. Not sure how good it is though.
