Alright, so let's take these shenanigans a step further.

Xizor has DTF.

1 ship on his left and 1 ship on his right, both at range 1.

Could he use the DTF ability first to absorb a crit from the left ship, then activate his natural ability and pass out the absorbed crit to the ship on his right?

In that situation, Xizor is not defending against the attack, the ship on his left is. Since his ability triggers on him defending he would not be able to use his ability on the kaboom he took from the targeted ship.
