What Shall We Do With The Autothrusters

By mazz0, in X-Wing

Early in the morning?

OK, so in casual games I'm gonna be all about flying Interceptors again, coz they're sexy, and fun to fly, but competitively what do people think will make them worth taking over Phantoms? If you factor in VI and Advanced Cloaking Device for Whisper and Autothrusters for Fell there's what, around eight points difference, or something like that?

That's makes me think if you're taking a few of them then it adds up, but if you're just taking one to fill a gap, say alongside a Firespray (which I'd like to do), are there any upgrades for that Autoceptor so it's worth taking over a Phantom for the same price? Speaking of which, you could have Boba Fett with two high pilot skill Autoceptors, ooh, I wanna try that! But I was thinking more of times when you can't quite fit two Autoceptors in.

Anyway, what are people's plans/ideas?

I've used three higher PS interceptors it's viable as long as you stay out of arc against turret ships, but they are still vulnerable to snub fighters it's really high risk high reward.

It's horses for courses really fel will live longer against turret ships but whisper remains a killer to small ships, jax with AT used for action denial is tempting though.

Why not take both? I think this list would be crazy fun to fly.

"Whisper" (32)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Soontir Fel (27)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Darth Vader (29)
Calculation (1)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
TIE/x1 (0)
Total: 100

Trade Calculation for VI and I think it would also be top tier. Soontir and Whisper do their normal shenanigans against low PS ships, Vader handles the ghost busting, and there's more than enough firepower to threaten a Fat Turret. Should be awesome.

Yes, or drop VI completely, take initiative for whisper, and let Vader shoot last so his guaranteed crit pretty much always goes through. That's the squad that I played around with for a bit after the Raider was announced.

What's Calculation do?

What's Calculation do?

use a focus token to turn one <eye> to a <crit>.

And the rest to hits, or is that it? How much is it? Sounds pretty good.

The others don't get touched, and it's 1 point. It essentially allows you to get slightly more out of those situations where you only roll a single eyeball.

Hmm, but uses up your EPT slot. That's tricky. Maybe good on Maarek?

And green A-Wings. It's only one point, they get two EPTs, and they go last anyway.

Of course once you take it you won't see a single eyeball the entire game, because the world's a cruel and harsh place!

Saw the topic title, immediately thought this:

Opened thread, was not disappointed. Have a like.

Weeeell, I suppose, if you've only got one point... Cool option anyway :)

Yeah, I put in everything I wanted and had that one little spot open. Don't like VI on Vader for that list just because you lose the flexibility of moving and shooting in any order. If you think 99 is enough for an initiative bid then go for it. I think letting Vader shoot last when appropriate with calculation could be pretty sweet. Hopefully shields are down on target by that point and double crits can ruin anyone's day. (Except the walking carpet)

Edit- Not sure an initiative bid is even a good idea here. Arc dodging (and range control) is a big deal and moving last might be worth it.

Throw them on an Interceptor or Starviper with PtL and profit

What about:

5 x Alpha Squadron w/ Auto Thrusters

You spread out and concentrate your fire. If you face a lot of big, turreted ships, you can do really well. Your defense dice would be great and your damage output would be strong. If you were able to get most things in your firing arc by staying at a distance, you could do well. Something gets close and you scramble and get away. Or chase down a big ship and zip it at close range.

Kir Kanos w/ Auto Thrusters

Have him sit on the flanks and snipe. He would be just 26 pts and you would have other ships that jump in the middle and mix it up. Kir would sit at range 2-3 and fire. If at Range 3 from a non-turret ship, he gets the AT dodge with a free hit thrown in. Just Focus each round for either defense or offense. If someone comes at you to mix it up, you can zip away and they will have a hard time chasing you.

Primarily, I'm looking for ways to use the Starviper.

Prince Xizor w/ Virago, Adv Sensors, Auto Thrusters, and Outmaneuver

then, either:

1) 5 x Binayre Pirates

2) Syndicate Y-wing w/ Ion Turret + Unhinged Astromech; 3 x Binayre Pirates

Zip around and blast things with Xizor and let the swarm swarm.

100 Points

39 points
Prince Xizor
Push the Limit, Virago, Autothrusters, Fire-Control System
35 points
Guri
Push the Limit, Autothrusters
13 points
Black Sun Soldier #1
13 points
Black Sun Soldier #2

You're gonna buy three Most Wanted? Think I'd pair Mr Xizor up with Mr Fett.

No. Just one. I have other Z-95's that aren't Scum. It's OK....I wasn't planning on going to tournament with it. My friends don't care, though.
