If these are the same mats used during world's and gencon then they suck. Until you flip them over then they are great! They are just giant mouse pa and the tops are slick but the bottoms hold stuff in place amazingly well.

The lines and objects on that map can be used to pre-measure if you know how far apart they are. Much harder to do that with stars.

Someone (I believe Paul Heaver) said they had spent so much time playing on the star mats that they kind of knew the spacing and patterns for movement. Still, knowing how far the apex of the Death Star is from the edge would be pretty easy to note, measure and remember (for example).

So I guess the star tiles are really dead then...

Hopefully these mats show up elsewhere. Going thru FFG adds $16 shipping. $56 is too steep when $5 worth of felt gets the job done.
