These are looking pretty cool and simple.
I'll probably buy two of them despite having my own 3'x3' already!

Where's the price tag?
Where's the price tag?
The price is one wallet, suitably emptied.
39.99 in the products page.
Wedge shaped epic and now We're getting us a Deathstar!
When will it be operational?
$39.99
Edited by KeokiNice! It was only a matter of time I suppose. They were leaving a lot of money on the table by not putting one out. Now it's probably only a matter of time until we see complete retail acrylic sets.
When will then be now?

Dat Death Star...
I have some mats that I am very happy with. But I think I want that Death Star. And a Death Star II mat.
Undercutting FLG's F.A.T. mats by about 15 bucks, and made of the same material, it looks like.

Take my money FFG! Take it all you glorious Wookies!
Baking large objects into the playmat looks wierd to me.
There are customizable and cheaper solutions for X-Wing playmats out there...however, reading neoprene caught my attention. Only heard good things about playmats out of that material, apparently worth the price tag.
Any one with neoprene mats experiences?
Played on a neoprene mat last night, I won, so that makes it good. But seriously the squish and grip to the table is great. The top on the one I played on was still a little slick, maybe silky is the right adjective, but still way nicer than vinyl.
These are basically mousepads. really HUGE mousepads. The tops can sometimes be a little bit silky smooth, but you have the option of flipping them upside down for an ultra-grip surface that will never let your ships move. However then the silky side is on the table and now the entire map can slide a bit! Still they rock.
I'm glad they're finally making this, but they're beyond late in getting this out. I held out for a long time waiting for them to make mats, but I'm quite happy with my Orion Nebula mats I got when I couldn't wait any longer.
When will then be now?
Soon.
Will need to see how the surface grips. I already have a really good Xia GripMat, which does a great job of keeping my minis in place unless I want to move them. I've seen other starmats where the non-printed side is actually the better one to play on because the printed surface is too slick.
So I guess the star tiles are really dead then...
Huh. Was planning on buying a similar product by a competitor, but they only have coloured nebulae - I prefer a clean star field.
I already have 2 3x3's and a 3x6, but I might just have to get that Death Star one

Were they ever really alive...?
When FFG say "soon", they mean soon. Looks like FFG is putting those playmats on the fasttrack. It's currently "In Development" for a release in Q1, 2015.
I noticed that they went out of their way to mention "in house manufacturing", in other words, they won't have to be shipped from China.
As pretty as the Death Star looks, I think it might be a bit visually busy for me to actually want to play on. And hey! Starfield! Check _you_ out, being all understated and sexy...
