Just something i find in tournments and wonder what other people think?

By Crazy Elf, in UFS General Discussion

When i am playing in a tournment you ovious play diffrent people who arent in your play group (oviously in big tournments) which makes it a great experience see how they have made there deck etc.

What i find though when you do come across someone from your play group you know exactly how the game is going to go. Its like at the uk ptom my last 2 rounds where against people from my play group and i lost both games know exactly that would happen (those loses were my only 2 out of the 5 rounds) but i dont like that fact as your play group know how your deck works fair enough you do as well but if your like me all you know is when your dead or not or if you can do something.

I find play diffrent people a new experience and more fun as you dont know whats going to happen and i feel like i stand a chance. I spose the question i am trying to ask is whether you find play people from your own play group in a major tournement a good thing or a bad thing win or lose?

There's nothing I hate more in UFS.

Whenever I organize a tournament where we have out-of-towners, I put highest priority into placing people against soemone else NOT in their play group. Any left overs are matched up on a random basis.

However other people want to organize games is their business and I respect that. Personally however, i find it insulting to make someone travel X amount of miles only to play against someone they could have played locally as well as for local people to not be able to play new faces.

One of the ladies in our group actually met her current boyfriend due to an out-of-town tournament, so I think it's a great thing!

I've learned to play a deck several different ways against my play group. That is why flexiblity is key in deck making. But my group can be more flexable becasue we are all new players.

Honestly, I don't like playing people from my playgroup at tournaments; the whole idea is playing with new people to me. Normally when I play someone from my group we agree on a draw unless we absolutely need a win. (and if we're not making top 8 and the other will, we'll normally take the loss or such. *Shrug*)

I hate it. Mostly because we tend to travel hella far (closest large-scale tournament we ever went to, and sadly that discounts regionals were the Canadian Nationals at 7 hours drive and that's because we is car ninjas) for something we could have done at home.

i hate playing locals. at the past two regionals half of my opponents have been from my local playgroup and it is so anoying.

So come to this one

I hate playing local people because i know i'm going to lose, but all the GOOD local players dont play anymore so i win now, lol. But i competly get what your saying why go to a distanct tournament if ur just going to play the same people you always play. But u also have to think diffent people run differnet tournments different ways. Getting pair up agaist some one u know in sertant tournemnts can be a good/bad thing, u know where ur gonna win or lose. while oh the other hand u've never played a new person and dont know how they play so its a toss up. Personaly i get nervous when i play people i dont know and play really crappy. But if i have played them b4 locally or at another tournment i do better. Iv been terriffyed at worlds each time i have played in it, so i do crappy. just depends if ur going for that win or the experance.
