I am pretty new to the X Wing game, very much enjoying it ! I hop on these forums quite often to catch up on the trends and get some ideas of how to run my lists. But I am running into a problem. I do not understand all of the lingo. Meta, TL, TL'd, Fat Han, Super-Corran....and a whole slew of other things that simply turn all of the posts into gibberish when I read them. Can someone lend a hand here?
X Wing Forum Terminology
It does take some getting used to. Try these threads, they should help with the more common ones.

Unfortunately, it is pretty unavoidable. It would be a real pain to type out full lists every time instead of saying "fat han" and a lot of the upgrade names can be long and difficult to type quickly. Its a lot easier to type PTL than Push the Limit. As you get more familiar with the cards, most of the acronyms and abbreviations can be sorted out by context.
Just hope we never have a player in Europe playing dash with an engine upgrade because that would be an EU ship with EU in the EU.
Thanks, these are helpful.
When i asked the mods for the off topic and painting and list sub forums i did also ask for a pinned 'new players primer' as well with a glossary but they didnt want to make too many changes or have too much stuff 'fixed in place'
Hey, least we got sub forums and that was more of an issue than having a to lurk a bit to pick up the lingo.
I find it suprising they wouldn't want to pin some sort of Newb introductory info. Well, thus far I am noticing that FFG is awesome at making games....seriously lacking in management. JMO
I must admit the terminology here confused me for a while at first, this being the first forum I'd joined, and being old school and not entirely savy to text or general net-lingo or common abbreviations used there, I sometimes had to Google some terms to try an make sense of what some folks were trying to convey.
I have a teenage daughter, and some days I can't understand a word she's posting on facebook. Seems to be some cryptic code that makes the German Enigma look like child's play.

Trust me you dont want it the other way.
At GW its like an inverse pyramid for management. When i started in 'black library' in 1999/2000 ish they had a management structure like a multinational. In my office there were like four managers... and about three staff for them to manage. even when i had my own dept (organised play) i only had one permanent staff member as a direct line.... i had to recruit the other guys from other departments to staff events on short term contracts.
I'd much rather a creative *player led* company than a 'lets make what the shareholders want' company where everyone is a manager of something.
One guy back at GW had his name as his job title. he was just 'Dave Smith' (not his real name, not fair to name who it was) and he just wandered around meddling in stuff as he'd run out of useful stuff to do but had been amazing useful to the compnay in the 80s so they kept him on. Bit of a silly situation.

Still gotta admit it would be cool to have your own name as your title. Kinda badass. I keep geting flashes from something out of a cyberpunk setting.
Manager: "It's him! It's mr. Takahashi! He's coming to our office!"
Corp Clerck: "What does he do?"
Manager: "He is mr. Takahashi."
Clerck: "Yeah but what does he actualy do? Whats his job?"
Manager: "His job is to be mr. Takahashi."
Clerck: "What? Is that a job?"
Manager: "Well it's more of a calling. Mr. Takahashi is mr. Takahashi, full time, 24/7, no vacations!"
Clerck: "Could I aply to be mr. Takahashi?"
Manager: "Don't be silly. Don't you know anything about Jinteki-Renraku? The corporate ladder (top echelon) goes: First there is the Board of directors then the CEO, Shogun, Junior vice president, Vice president, President, Daimio-President, Mr. Graves, Mr. Sanshiro and finaly at the abosolute top: Mr. Takahashi!"
Clerck: And mr. Sanshiro is doing the job of being mr. Sanshiro?"
Manager: "You are starting to get it."
Clerck: "And what is mr. Takahashi coming to our office for?"
Manager: "Euh... To be mr. Takahasi... In our office."
Clerck: *facepalms* "I should have signed up with Weiand-yutani."
