Ion assignment

By Garrett Lowe, in X-Wing

In your gaming group, who places assigned ion tokens, the ioner or the ionee?

Wait, are you asking if the ship that fires an ion cannon gets an ion token, or are you just asking who gets to put the token next to the ship that was hit?

It's the former, for the record. If it wasn't, then ion weapons would be positively awful.

My default has been for the ship's owner to give it an ion token so each player can keep their tokens straight. If, as often happens, my opponent does not have ions at the ready, we use mine.

Generally the person who owns the ship puts the token down, in my experience. That way my tokens are by my ships and his tokens are by his ships (with the exception of target lock tokens).

When I use Ion weapons, I place my tokens. Some players that I play against don't always have Ion weapons so they don't have those tokens at the ready.

Oh, I understand the question. I'd presume it'd be the owner of the ship recieving the ion token if they have one, but the person with the ion-using ship places it if their opponent doesn't have an ion token.

In our group, the person using the weapon typically puts it down because as Mr. Froggies pointed out - most don't bring ion tokens if they're not running ion weapons.

The person with the ion weapon usually since they brought the weapon they usually have the token ready.

I do, because I provide all the ships and tokens :P

I sometimes make it a habit of only bringing the the stuff needed for the squad(s) I want to fly (all cards, tokens, etc.) If I'm not using ion weapons, I do not have ion tokens, so I feel it's up to the person that brings the ion weapons to have the tokens. Actually, doesn't the reference card or tournament rules say it supposed to be the ioner's tokens?

The rules don't specify whose token it should be, but common sense says that if you brought an ion weapon and your opponent didn't, you are expected to provide the token, since ion tokens are not included in the core set.

no tokens, no ion effect? Like shooting blanks ;)
"Alright, who forgot to charge the ions?!"
