I used an NPC Quarren bounty hunter once, it'll be neat to see how they differ from Mon Cal.
Don't worry, Maelora, I'm sure they'll release a Star Trek Species Menagerie list someday. ![]()

Knowing that my campaign is going to touch on the Mon Cal/Quarren relationship post Clone Wars, I'm most impressed with the species selection. Can't wait for this book!
Zeltrons please.
Given where False Credentials is placed in the preview, do you think it's going to be a Charmer talent or something available in the equipment/services section?
While I would be kind of disappointed if it wasn't something more generally available, I guess I have no problem handing out fake IDs in exchange for obligation to whichever group is willing to make them for the PCs. It's something I'm doing already as a GM, since the characters who have an Imperial bounty on their heads can't seem to keep their heads down.
who doesn't love the cthulu-men?
Me. Though I do recall the WEG Quarren/MonCal adventure with fondness, and I once impressed the hell out of some SW fans at work by admitting I knew what a Quarren was...
So maybe... I love them a little bit...!
Don't worry, Maelora, I'm sure they'll release a Star Trek Species Menagerie list someday.
Peculiarly, I was never a Trek fan and it's a rather large hole in my general sci-fi geekiness.
Weird, all things considered.
Zeltrons please.
This.
Edited by MaeloraIs there a ****ing species you DO like Maelora? I'm sorry but I am getting a little ticked off at the general dismissal of a majority of the species in the game being 'freaks'.
Excuse me but I'd rather not have human reskin number 351 and wanting to add a little colour to the universe...so Falleen is fine but Quarren and Gotal can go hang? Is there some sort of scale of what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to what species are included?
I don't mean to offend or anything, your opinion is your opinion, just airing my grievances about constantly seeing you moaning about 'freak species'. If you want an all 'near-human' variant game, be my guest but don't stand in the way of people who want variety.
Edited by EbakThe write up is ok, fairly easy to guess what the 3 specs were going to have once they were named. I would have rather read about the signature abilities, but it's only a couple weeks.
The races, I think Falleen are decent, Quarren I'm more or less 'meh', and I think Gotal are silly.
I too am curious as to what the signature abilities will be.
I've been hoping we would see Quarren for a while now, though I was starting to think they would show up in the Bounty Hunter book. Three all new species sounds good to me, though I don't imagine getting much use out of the Gotal.
Further evidence of how varied peoples' tastes can be, Gotal is the species that I'm most excited about from this book.
Zeltrons would be cool, but I think they and a lot of humans offshoots can be represented easily enough for now by giving Humans the appropriate skill choices and characteristics bought at character creation.
Who else besides me would have been super-excited for Ugor? Who else has even played an Ugor?

I agree. I've never been fond of Falleen, and the Gotal are weird but not so weird as to put me off from playing them. I do wonder if droids still cause them headaches.
That would be an interesting quirk to reconcile. A simple penalty to strain when in proximity to droids would be a simple explanation, but what if a Gotal and Droid are part of the same player group? Would the Gotal get a single strain deduction for as long as it's around the droid, or would it continuously get worse?
Well, I guess we got ONE species that we'll actually use, along with the usual freaks.
How did that one slip through?
Ugh, I shouldn't be sarcastic. At least we got something this time. And the Specialisations look good.
You like twileks? Right? So headtails fine...
But quarren?
No. So what is it? The mouths? Or what?
Edit: just read what I wrote and thought it best to state I am not trying to be rude. ![]()
But seeiously if typical Star Wars races from A New Hope are now "freaks" then I am at a loss...
Edited by DanteRotterdamGotals are awesome. I recall back in the D6 days, one of my players had a character called Ertan Scellan who was a Gotal Bounty Hunter. Ended up being a mean SOB with a flair for always attacking fast and first. I later converted that character to be a bad guy in my Moon Swing Chronicles Campaign as a Pirate Lord. A very much hated bad guy.
Coming from one who does like the freaky species, Star Wars means different things to different people. No one is required to embrace every aspect of it, and a fan should be able to complain about any aspect of the mythos that he/she disagrees with without having his/her fandom questioned. Personally, I think Zeltrons and Zabraks and, well, pretty much all the species that Maelora prefers are dumb. I also cringe a little every time I see a species that was introduced in the prequel trilogy, because they feel tainted by the films that I hate.
People like what they like; they hate what they hate. We're all still Star Wars fans, whatever that means.
Usual freaks? I am just going to ask it... Do you even like Star Wars?Well, I guess we got ONE species that we'll actually use, along with the usual freaks.

Her player group doesn't like having to look at their characters when they have weird alien faces while they play a pen and paper RPG.
I suspect they're all Imperials and staunch supporters of COMPNOR.
Why do so many people want Zeltrons? They seem like they'd be a pain in the rear to GM with players CONSTANTLY trying to use telepathy. I've never liked telepathy in games, it's way too easy to exploit. Add that to the Falleen-like pheromones, and I think you have a species that's begging for mis-use without having any defining character. My opinion of course.

Zeltrons don't have telepathy. they have pheromones that they can use to influence people.

That's Falleen too, but according to wookieepedia:
"They possessed two biological traits of note. The first was that they all produce potent pheromones, similar to the Falleen species, which enhanced their attractiveness and likeability. The second was a limited telepathic ability, used to project emotions onto others, as well as allowing them to read and even feel the emotions of others; some Zeltrons were hired by the Exchange for this ability. Because of their telepathic ability, positive emotions such as happiness, love and pleasure became very important to them, while negative ones such as anger, fear, or depression were shunned."
That would be empathic projection/reception, someone at Wookieepedia is using a broader definition of telepathy.
Anyway, I already got my copy pre-ordered. I made the mistake of waiting until Lords of Nal Hutta was out and had to wait a few days. Never again.

Am I the only one who thinks that Zeltron sounds more like a '50s B-movie robot than a Star Wars alien species?
I'm curious about what non-transport and non-freighter ships we'll get. Will we get Uglies or some other form of underworld used fighters for the pilot spec? Will we get some Imp customs ships and other law enforcement craft?

I'd really like to see some Uglies. I was disappointed they weren't in Suns of Fortune. Then again, they might show up in an AoR release.
Imperial Customs agents and their ilk has got to be a necessity. I can't imagine FFG not including them in depth especially with the degree customers vs smuggling gets covered in Lords of Nal Hutta.

I figured that layer of pulp Sci-fi over top the fantasy elements is what makes them Star Wars-y.
