How can I make use of Eaden Vrill?

By bmwrider, in X-Wing

I have been focusing one the 2400 and I can't seem to find a way to make good use of his ability.

Are you just supposed to wait for a natural stress or are we stuck with using Flechette Torpedoes ?

Team him with R3A2 or E/2 Daggers with Tactician?

Or just run him as a normal HLC carrier without the title, and treat any out-of-arc shots against stressed targets as a fun bonus.

Just list crafting here, no basis in play testing but:

Eaden Vrill — YT-2400 32

Tactician 2

Dagger Squadron Pilot — B-Wing 24

Tactician 2

B-Wing/E2 1

Dagger Squadron Pilot — B-Wing 24

Tactician 2

B-Wing/E2 1

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter

It's a control list of types because not a ship will k turn near year and anything you Hilt in arc will almost certainly be doing a green manuever to not get hit that.

tactician, R5-P9 and the upcoming cannon that gives stress

in epic, run him alongside Dutyfree + Freq Jammer and the various stress inducing ships in the game now, not just good for eaden but for your strategy in general.

I've used a build similar to Bloodstripe's a few times. It's extremely fun to play but not sure how competitive it is. In my list I drop the bandit for ion cannons and FCS on the b-wings, and add APL to Vrill.

He is imho the best one to use for none title HLC. In your arc you have HLC, and ships dodging your arc will a lot of times be Kturning, or using ptl. Giving you the extra dice. I've run him with out stress givers in my list and his ability still kicks in a lot, or forces them to fly in a way they are not used to.

>Eaden Vrill

>>Inteligence Agent

>Roark Garnet

>>Ion Cannon Turret

>Nera Dantels

>>Deadeye

>>Flechette Torpedoes

That's the skeleton of a list I messed around with for awhile. I'ts rebel control with a bit of stockiness to it. Vrill is pretty much set here, just upgrade Roark and Nera to your tastes from here. Fly in a flexible group together and try to maximize your use of Ion and stress followed by a solid cannon from Vrill. Use Vrill to block a lot to.

Vrill is sturdy, cheap, and easily underestimated. I'd like to use him as a carrier for Jan Ors in this build:

Eaden Vrill — YT-2400 32
Jan Ors 2
Keyan Farlander — B-Wing 29
Push the Limit 3
Advanced Sensors 3
B-Wing/E2 1
Recon Specialist / Lando 3
Hobbie Klivian — X-Wing 25
R3-A2 2
Farlander is your main damage dealer and this setup lets him be pretty tanky. He can often pick up two evade tokens with RecSpec Lando/Jan Ors and can PTL for a target lock + stress token. Hobbie works the flank with R3-A2 and Vrill takes 3-dice potshots at whomever Hobbie stresses.
Edit: @DarkArk - Yeah, it would be just the one with Recon Specialist. I previously ran this with Lando, who does let you nab two evades pretty consistently. If you get at least one evade from Lando you can PTL and turn your focus action into an evade. On those sweet turns where Lando turns up focus+evade or evade+evade, you can PTL for a target lock instead.
I didn't like the randomness as much and thought I'd run Recon Specialist next time, but now I see why that won't work. Thanks!

Here is a list that I used with good success against a Phantom+Soontir combo:

Eaden Vrill

Jan Ors: Veteran Instincts, Blaster Turret, Kyle Katarn, Moldy Crow

Nera: Flechette Torpedoes x 2, Deadeye, Munitions Failsave

I lost Nera fairly early on, but having Jan to boost Eaden's basic attack makes him quite good even without stress. Four to five attack dice depending on stress and range is nasty against most things. Run him right into the enemy with his support ships covering.

He picks up two evade tokens with RecSpec/Jan Ors and can PTL for a target lock and a stress token.

Except Jan's ability only works once per round, so you should only get one, no?

I think Eaden Vrill is waiting desperately for the release of Flechette Cannons. He will hold hands with a pair of B-wings and they will all skip along together, merrily launching clouds of razor-sharp metal shards at you.
