So going to a asteroidless tournament...

By The Imperial Rebel, in X-Wing

This Saturday I will be attending a tournament with a catch, no asteroids (or any obstacles). So I was wonder what people think would be a good recommendation for a list. I was thinking about these but i'm not sure

Omricon + AdvS + EU (28)

Bounty Hunter (33)

Whisper + FCS + VI + ACD (39)

= 100

or

Keyan + B1 + Jan + PTL (35)

Tarn + R7 (25)

Fringer + HLC + Recon (40)

= 100

These are just off the top of my head and I'm welcome to suggestion!

Thanks

The hardest part about flying a swarm is going through the rocks. With no rocks, you don't have to worry about that. So you may as well take the most efficient jouster, since that's what you're going to end up doing.

+1. I'd probably be the slight less efficient one going Howl/stuff over the 8th TIE, but yea, TIE Swarm is too strong when no asteroids are present.

I guess you could make a case for Whisper (or Echo)/mini swarm here too, since she wouldn't have to worry about the asteroids blocking any of her possible decloaks. I think the swarms would still be better.

I, for one, have never had an issue with this. I guess that's because I spent so much time with hypermobile B-Wings that Decloak came instantly to me.

That being said, I've never liked VI + Adv Cloak on them. Aye, it's effective, but I prefer being the clownfish among the sea anemonie that is a dense asteroid cluster.

Have you ever tried out a BlockORS?

That's an Outer Rim Smuggler with Navigator, Intelligence Agent, and Anti-Pursuit Lasers, for 33 points.

The idea is that you get in front of and vaguely pointing in the same direction of a ship. You now select a Turn or Bank maneuver, look at the opponent's dial, and adjust your speed so that they run into you.

You still get your full offensive power and action, and they lose a substantial portion of their maneuverability and action economy, and also roll for damage against themselves, while neither of you can attack the other.

It's nasty, and the best way to fight it is to force the ORS onto an asteroid, or let you go. In this tournament, that's impossible.

Oh, and all of the upgrades and pilots are non-unique, so you can run it in triplicate if you wish :D

Dang no rocks makes the game very boring imo.

Hmm only have 5 ties and 1 falcon. Even if it's not good what do you think of the lists I had above?

Fringers don't do enough damage by themselves, I've found. If you don't have points to spend on boosting its damage I'd say that's 33 points that can be better spent elsewhere.

I introduce you to the TIE/ln and TIE/in hybrid swarm then.

Only 7 ships, but two have 3 dice, and a 3rd has 3 dice sometimes.

No asteroids means you can't lose your Whisper on turn two :D

Challenge accepted!

Bring a bunch of seismic charges: make your own obstacles! :)

Is this a "no rocks" tourny for newer players to learn? If so, bringing a list to "exploit" this fact and face newbies seems ...harsh.

I guess if you hate new peeps and want to run them off, more power to you.

Oops forgot to put it has HLC when I posted the topic, my bad.

Playing without rocks really effects game balance..... A lot. Large base ships become much better without rocks. Phantoms become much better. Arc dodgers become somewhat better, all of which tips the scales against ships that are none of these. I'd seriously consider a buzz saw shuttle with EU in this setting.

And TIEs suffer greatly. If everyone can just be jousting rebels that plays right into their hands.

I'm running a tournament at the end of the month that uses missions. Most of them don't have rocks, but instead you've got containers, senator's shuttle, etc. I like how these things can shake up some if the competitive builds people bring. My tournament pack is on my website if anyone's interested: www.theblackorifice.co.uk
