has anyone considered opportunist on corran?

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

not in the current 2 ship slaughter fest, but against 3-4 ships, opportunist would (likely) kick in on the double tap. paired with fcs, you can boost his offense even further without taking a hit to your defense.

standard non-firing turn the next turn anyway.

It's true it would likely make a strong second attack but then you're left stressed. Normally after the second attack you want Corran to get away from everyone, and doing a green for that is unlikely. So you'd leave him stressed again which probably isn't a great idea. Could work, could have some issues. I say give it a try and see how it works out :)

If you equip him with R2D2 you're going to want to do a green move anyway. But maybe he'll become too predictable. In this case a standard R2 may give him some more options.

I remember Expose being considered viable, as it actually buffs both attacks, but then people remembered it's terrible.

I've considered opportunist. I've also considered throwing Marksmanship or Expose with EI on him. Still have the stress issue but you don't lose your action and the modifiers apply across the double-tap.

In the end though I lean towards VI. It's unfortunate, but if you're running horran corn you gotta be able to at least try to BR to get a phantom or soontir in arc.

At some point, I would like to try him with Expose, R2D2, Experimental Interface, FCS. In a casual game that is. This puts him at 48 points, and while he could be deadly, he could also be dead. It seems that Expose + EI is the worst way for a (non-decimator) ship to get an extra attack die. There's "outmaneuver" (which isn't strictly an extra attack die, but -1 agility is still an increase to damage) for 3 points, which comes with the drawback of only works when out of arc. Then Opportunist that has the draw back of giving you a stress, and the condition of defender can't have a token for 4 points, which is better than outmaneuver since +1 attack > -1 agility, but it also costs more and gives a stress and still has a condition. Then there's HLC, which is 7 points, which thus far costs the most, and the draw back is that it doesn't work at R1, and it can't crit. But you can always use it (short of R1) unlike opportunist and outmaneuver. Plus it takes a cannon slot, which is less valuable than your EPT.

And then there's expose + EI. Expose by itself is awful as has been discussed. But with EI, it costs the same as the HLC, but it costs you two slots that are both more valuable, and it stresses you, and it requires you to get an action that you can proc EI off of. But it costs the same as HLC =P. Oh, and it can only go on people that have EPTs, which means they're expensive to begin with.

Sure, it'd be fun, but it'd be very situational - you wouldn't want to do it if Corran is in arc, and being at PS8, you'd still have to have someone that could take care of phantoms in your list, but at 48 points, that's no longer Han... Perhaps a not so super Dash :).

I seem to recall a poster a few months back came up with an idea to use expose on Corran with little risk. I seem to remember he used Airen Cracken with Decoy and some 1-2 pilot skill generic to swap with. Cracken shoots late in the turn, passes an action to Corran, and Corran triggers Expose for the second shot.

You really want to use something that can trigger on both attacks.

I wasn't the poster you are referring to but I was thinking about a build involving Corran and Cracken.

Corran with R2-F2, FCS, expose and EI

Cracken with whatever and a Kyle in a HWK.

Corran activates R2F2 and receives focus from Kyle for his defence. High PS pilots take a crack at Corran (VI Whisper, Dash, Han etc.) good luck against a focused 4 dice-throwing Corran. Cracken attacks, Corran takes either a TL or a focus, activates expose. Now he's back to 3 dice on defence (boo!) but 4 on his attacks. After his 1st attack FCS kicks in, and if the thing you're aiming at isn't dead by then, you'll have a TL ready the next time you'll be able to fire. In the next round you can turtle with a a focus, activate EI for R2F2 and give him an evade via Cracken.

Looks great on paper, in practice your opponent will take down Cracken ASAP and then your beautiful build will come crashing down. Great fun if it works, though.
