Rolled up Pc's two weeks ago

By djshadowcat, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

there is a Chiss, a T-rex, a Wookie, a Human and a Duros.

a few more may be added soon. I messed up on the skills and gave them all of the skills listed (Newb gm)

but the went and got a Lambada class shuttle as a mobile base of ops.

I'm going to start with Whisper Base and I keep forgetting to take the free adventures to get printed off.

Any advice Thanks in advance

FIRST THING

Every group's first inclination is to get in the AT-STs in the garage and wreak havoc. But they are supposed to be unpowered, and the only way to get power to them is to activate them from the control room. So I would just explain that the purpose of this first battle is to teach the mechanics of combat, and that for this battle only, activating the AT-STs simply isn't possible.

It's possible that they've had their power cores removed or something.

If you like the idea of PCs using the walkers, then make sure you have the stats handy and that they're using appropriate skill checks: It's a Hard Gunnery check (3 Purples) to hit a person-sized target or smaller in an AT-ST. So they might find themselves failing more often than not...although, to be fair, vehicle damage is multiplied by 10 for personal scale targets, so one hit is enough to vaporize any opponent...and personal scale damage can rarely even get through a vehicle's armor, let alone deal enough damage (10 personal scale damage for every 1 Hull Trauma) to even scratch an AT-ST. So if they make whatever crazy check you set them to actually activate the things, I'd say the battle can just be resolved narratively: have the players tell you what happens, making a single skill check as appropriate, resolve the inevitable grim demise of the hapless Imperial guards, and move on.

SECOND THING

Also, if they have the bright idea to take the Lambda-class shuttle at the end of the adventure and chase down the base's commander, the chase will be very short and uneventful :) So that is also something to be prepared for. Perhaps a contingency plan is appropriate for that as well.
