Initiative tie-breakers?

By Desslok, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Okay, I know that in the event of a tie for initiatives, it goes most successes -> most advantage -> most triumphs. But what happens if both sides get the same numbers on all tiers?

Lets say that the PC gets 2 successes, 2 advantage and no triumphs. What's the order if the NPC also gets 2-2-0? Give it to the PC because they're the PC and they're more awesome-er?

PC because its their story.

What Miishelle said

"If a Player Character and an NPC are still tied, the Player Character is ranked higher This is the Initiative order."

Core Rulebook p.198

I like how I put it better :D

I thought it was most successes -> most triumphs -> most advantages.

Since triumphs are more rare and important, shouldn't they be looked at first for the tie breaker before advantages?

Triumphs are not counted AT ALL for initiative.

They can be used to give a character a free maneuver during the first round of combat but they are 100% ignored for initiative order.

They do count for 1 success, so they are not entirely ignored on initiative.

You can also use your triumph on other narrative aspect of the fight... it's not an automatic free maneuver, even if it's the most widely used one.

That is true, you can use the "amazing" part of it for whatever you want, the book suggests either a free maneuver (as in the "can" part of my comment) or noticing something that can potentially help in the battle (similar to a destiny point flip).

The success already calculates into the "successes" part, the other part is ignored for determining ties.

If you have an NPC with 1 success, 1 advantage and 1 triumph and a PC with 1 success and 1 advantage it is still a tie, which is why I said it was ignored. I never said it was ignored for initiative, I said it was ignored for initiative ORDER, which is a very important distinction.

No...if you had an NPC with 1 Success, 1 Advantage, and 1 Triumph and a PC with 1 Success and 1 Advantage the NPC would be going first, since the Triumph also counts for a Success.

But what you say should hold true if the PC in question has 2 Success. And the PC would win the tie.

I love how people think when I don't explicitly call out the success from a triumph, that I am ignoring it.

No need to be so rude, especially when I explained that in the same post you are quoting.

To be fair to fatedtodie, when listing the results of a roll, I always assume the total successes include any generated by triumphs. It's not like he said 'one success symbol, one advantage symbol, and one triumph symbol.'

Deleted.

I could've sworn that they did.... Did they in the beta or basic game or was it something I completly made up.

Realistically there are 2 parties, PC and NPC

That means you have 2 stats to find which is higher, at the point you need to go to a third you already have a tie and it goes to the PC.

one of the things I've done to cut down ties, and add more verity to the order is make it an average check. no penalties or penalties for threat or advantages, but two successes and a threat goes after two success. for a while my players would all go before the enemies, but this has helped to average it out.
